(Al) Sharpton wants NFL to block Limbaugh bid for Rams
Source: AP

NEW YORK — The Rev. Al Sharpton wants the National Football League to block conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh from bidding on the St. Louis Rams.

Sharpton sent a letter to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Monday. He said Limbaugh has been divisive and "anti-NFL" in some of his comments.

Limbaugh did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday.

Limbaugh said last week that he is teaming up with St. Louis Blues hockey team owner Dave Checketts in a bid to buy the Rams. He has declined to discuss details of the offer, citing a confidentiality agreement.

Full text: Al Sharpton's letter to Roger Goodell objecting to Rush Limbaugh's purchase of Rams

Dear Mr. Goodell:

I was disturbed to learn that there is a potential bid by Rush Limbaugh to buy the St. Louis Rams and I would like to request a meeting with you to discuss the myriad of reasons as to why he should not be given an opportunity to do so. Rush Limbaugh been divisive and anti-NFL on several occasions with comments about NFL Players including Michael Vick and Donovan McNabb and his recent statement that the NFL was beginning to look like a fight between the Crips and the Bloods without the weapons, was disturbing (New York Daily News, October 9th).

I commend the executive director of the NFL Players Association DeMaurice Smith for publicly asking that the League seek to unify not divide in a letter to the executive committee.

Mr. Smith courageously implored that the league reject divisiveness, and we, at National Action Network, and countless people across the country, strongly echo his sentiments.

I look forward to hearing from you to set up a meeting in the near future.

In Progress,

Reverend Al Sharpton
President, National Action Network

4. I agree with Sharpton but he should have left Vick out of it.
Using that piece of trash as an example doesn't help his position.

6. There was a lot of battle over whether or not the Steelers could be owned by
certain members of the Rooney family, because of their ties to "shady" businesses ... casinos ...

but I'm sure that there will be little or no investigation into what Rush did to little boys in the Dominican Republic, or about his drug abuse and illegal (but not charged) drug possession issues ...

7. If that racist rightwingnut buys the rams
you can be sure he will get rid of all blacks and make it an all white team of nothing but CONservatives who agree with him on EVERYTHING. Too bad he doesn't just go away. He is a cancer on society. :puke:

8. I doubt the other NFL owners would let him in their club.
Not because of his politics, but because of his well-documented racist statements. Football is first and foremost a business, and racism is bad for business.

9. I say let him buy the Rams and then we can see what Nazi Rush's team will look like ...
... when the majority of NFL players won't play on the team. I hope Rush will like his time at the bottom of the standings as he'll only have crackers and rednecks on his team. I pity the city of St. Louis though.

10. Let's compare the scenarios:
Decision: Rush Limbaugh is blocked from becoming an owner of an NFL team.
What happens next: Limbaugh whines about being discriminated against.
The disinterested public begins to think: Maybe right-wing talk show hosts are an oppressed minority in America.
Collateral damage: Upsurge of sympathy makes it harder to criticize specific things that Limbaugh says on his show.
Net result: Marginal ratings boost for Rush Limbaugh.

Decision: Rush Limbaugh is allowed to become an owner of an NFL team.
What happens next: Limbaugh can't help but use his new position as a platform from which to air his views on any number of subjects.
The disinterested public begins to think: 1) Has this guy always been so racist? He's worse than any other member of the mostly white, mostly male group of NFL owners.
2) Could it be that Marge Schott and Rush Limbaugh are twins separated at birth? Come to think of it, I haven't seen Marge Schott lately. Could it be that she was Rush Limbaugh in drag?
3) (people living within driving distance of St. Louis) I'm no longer interested in going to any St. Louis Rams games.
Collateral damage: Other owners fear guilt by association and quickly figure out how to oust Limbaugh from team ownership, sending him back to his radio show in disgrace. It's easier to criticize specific things he says on his show as people begin to realize that it's the only venue where he's sheltered enough to get away with them.
Net result: Marginal to precipitous ratings decline for Rush Limbaugh.

Not a tough choice as far as I'm concerned.

13. Right
He already whines about whites being discriminated against!

No one with any level of intelligence over that of a vegetable, which describes most of Limbaugh's listeners, will buy into the belief that facists like Limbaugh are oppressed!

The only sympathy he'll get can be found between shit and syphillis in any english dictionary!

He's already getting the ratings boost for just the hint that he might purchase the team.

11. Let Limbaugh buy the Rams
Then watch his investment fall to zero when no athlete, regardless of their skin tone, will play for them. That would be sweet.
