KERRY : Break Stranglehold of Foreign Oil
http://www.johnkerry.com/site/News2?page=NewsArticle&id=7090&AddInterest=1007

In remarks he will deliver today in Boone, Iowa John Kerry said, "Today President Bush has a meeting with the Saudi Arabian foreign minister that has enormous implications for our national security and the future of the region.

SNIP

"President Bush needs to face the truth that we have to break the stranglehold of foreign oil by moving towards energy independence and creating jobs here at home. No American President should ever have to put our national security second because of our dependence on foreign oil in the Middle East. Energy independence is critical to the long-term national security of the United States."

1. He's right
on that one. We should invest in alternative fuel sources and also just use the oil from the capped wells we've already dug in the Gulf.
I have it from a credible source that we have a dig and cap policy in the Gulf of Mexico. In other words, we don't need any foreign country for anything. We are completely self-sufficient!
:wtf:

4. Now that we went to war to get oil, with his approval, he wants
to promote non-oil solutions?

Get a life, Kerry. Your two-faced act makes me sick!!

You're a day late and $4 billion a month short, plus loss of life.

6. I think you should send Kerry a written morals lesson
since you are obviously better versed than the Senator, and are certain that all has taken place precisely as he desired.

11. This is not the first time Kerry's talked energy & security, either.
And I assure you that I have been paying attention. Maybe not on the campaign trail, but his positions on both are well documented.

28. yup,this has been kerry's issue for DECADES
seems some need to do a little research on what candidates have done throughout the years rather than recent "released statements". the record shows kerry has been a strong advocate of the environment for YEARS.

14. Hey, I know Kerry's been for alternative fuels,
but he didn't bother to think out how he was enabling Bush to whack the alternative fuels argument by fostering the drive to war for oil."Hey, now we got pulenty of erl."

Just a little harmless naivete, I guess.<sarcasm>

15. Good on him.
This is such an obvious and common sense idea that it would behoove whoever runs to invest serious money in removing the dependence on the ME oil.

17. He said that we must fully fund the research
and be independent of oil within 10 years. He wants it focused on as sharply as the space program in the 60s.

22. Don't you wonder why in the hell Al Gore didn't do this in 2000?
I still find it astounding that Gore didn't call for an energy self-sufficient "space" program. I remember being sure at the start he'd do it. Then nothing.

25. There are alternative fuels for cars and solar energy should be used
in all the Southern sunny states.

Would you believe in Florida, where the average cloudiness
is 1/2 hour per day if that, maybe 1 percent of houses/roofs
have solar energy panels.

Car producers should be encouraged by tax breaks for retooling
engines for alternative fuel ...corn oil, soy who cares...doesnt
have to run on gas.......this should have been worked on for the
past 30 years.....instead the car producers did everything to kill
cars that got better fuel, rotary engine, etc etc
