LINCOLN, Ill. — A couple and three children were found slain in their central Illinois home in what a sheriff described Tuesday as a "brutal homicide," and detectives were trying to identify possible suspects.

Authorities discovered the bodies late Monday afternoon after responding to a 911 call about possible shots fired at the address, Logan County Sheriff Steven Nichols said at a news conference. A 3-year-old girl survived the attack and was taken to a hospital in Peoria, he said.

Nichols declined to say why his office didn't release information about the slayings until Tuesday morning. He said detectives were following leads to try to identify possible suspects, but that authorities could only say that the suspect was considered "armed and dangerous."

Nichols warned area residents to lock their doors at night as a precaution. "We are determined to identify and arrest those responsible," he said. The slayings, which Nichols described as a "brutal homicide against an entire family," occurred at the family's ranch-style home in Beason, a farming community about 140 miles southwest of Chicago.

Our innocence ended in my neighborhood in 1968 when an engineer who worked for Grumman Aerospace shotgunned his wife and then tried to kill their infant son.

The son survived, was adopted by a neighbor.

The guy only got 10 years. On the day he was release, he vowed to kill his son. The family that adopted the son, vanished. Moved without a word to anyone. No one knows where they went or what happened to them. No doubt, it was the best thing they did because, several days went by and a strange man posing as a police officer was making the rounds in the neighborhood trying to find info about the family.

He came to my house, my mom answered the door. He claimed to be a police officer. My uncle was a cop at the time. My mom said to them, (like something straight out of the treasure of sierra madre) If your a cop, were is your badge?" My mom told me that they guy sort of fumbled some sort of explanation about being undercover. My mom, never shy, told the guy he was full of shit. She called the cops. They never caught the guy and he never showed up again.

This is how one colossal bastard murderer can ruin lives, families and a neighborhood.

and I remember that for who knows why, because this was a number of years ago (longer than I want to admit to), but I remember he was just the sweetest, nicest person you could meet.

CNN) -- All five members of a family found slain inside a Beason, Illinois, home early this week were beaten to death, police said Thursday.

Police officers stand patrol outside the Gee household late Monday evening.
A pathologist determined that the five -- Raymond Gee, 46; Ruth Gee, 39; and three children -- had been beaten, Logan County Sheriff Steve Nichols told reporters. "All the injuries at the scene were from blunt-force trauma."
