Of course, no one in Arlington is suggesting that Mr. Bush scored any knockout punches on the trail his first week, when he got into a public fight with some families of 9/11 victims over the appropriateness of using images of the smoldering World Trade Center, and a flag-draped body, in his advertisements. The families demanded that Mr. Bush pull the advertisements off the air, but he refused to back down.

Finally, Mr. Bush may have been in a really good mood this past week because he ignored the annual Gridiron dinner, a 119-year tradition of Washington journalists, for a meeting with President Vicente Fox of Mexico at the Bush ranch in Crawford, Tex.

Mr. Bush, who intensely dislikes such formal inside-the-Beltway events, instead sent Vice President Dick Cheney, who joked that he had become alarmed earlier in the evening over some tightness in his chest, but "then I realized it's called laughing."

He has been campaigning nonstop since his appointment by Tony and the gang on December 12, 2000. Almost every week of his maladministration we have been bombarded with stage managed images of him attending different campaign style photo op events in various key electoral regions of the country. These "official events" are conveniently held shortly before or shortly after one of his 2,500 dollar a plate fundraisers. His whole maladministration has been one endless campaign, but the empty snake oil sales shtick gets quite old after a while, particularly now that increasing numbers of people are ceasing to be taken in by the pitchman's shallow gimmickry and starting to refuse to buy the cheap tawdry product that he is selling.

Bumiller spun for the WH about a week too when she wrote an article about Bush's body language when talking about the FMA, claiming it proved that he really, really didn't want to discriminate against gays, and that he has a lot of gay friends. It was the same spin I heard a couple of nights later on Charlie Rose--Rich Lowery of the National Review talked about Bush's "body language." I heard on the news last night about how AWOL has spent a total of 200 days at the pig farm. 200 days out of 3 years is ... lets see carry the one ... toughly 18% of his time in office has been spent on vacation. And that's just at the pig farm.

This does not even include his tax payer fund raising jaunts around the country. AWOL has already spent more time NOT performing the duties of a president in 3 years than Clinton did in 8.
