Richardson endorses Holden's re-election
By Jo Mannies
Post-Dispatch Political Correspondent
03/07/2004

HANNIBAL, Mo. -- New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson jumped into the middle of Missouri's Democratic battle for governor by declaring his support for the incumbent, Gov. Bob Holden.

"I want to stand with my fellow governor," Richardson said, as he exhorted hundreds of state Democrats gathered in Hannibal to do the same.

A few feet away, on the same platform, Holden's rival in this summer's Democratic primary - state Auditor Claire McCaskill - sat in silence.

Among other things, Richardson said that Holden deserved praise for helping to resurrect the state's economy in troubled times, which Richardson blamed largely on the Republicans controlling Congress and the White House. "You're one of the 10 states with job growth," Richardson added.

1. Thanks for posting this!
Lots of people really appreciate Gov. Holden. The article contains a fairly decent quote from the guy:

"The Republican agenda is not pro-business, it's anti-labor," Holden said.

3. I like and respect Bill Richardson. I live in Missouri, and I support
Governor Holden. I especially like the way that the governor stood up to the pro-conceal/carry interests in my state, to make sure that everyone on the streets isn't packing a dangerous firearm.

BUT, it is disingenuous for Richardson to state that Missouri is one of ten states with job growth. We have a net loss of over 75,000 jobs. Most of which were high paying manufacturing jobs which are probably lost for good.
