HANNIBAL, Mo. -- New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson jumped into the middle of Missouri's Democratic battle for governor by declaring his support for the incumbent, Gov. Bob Holden.
"I want to stand with my fellow governor," Richardson said, as he exhorted hundreds of state Democrats gathered in Hannibal to do the same.
A few feet away, on the same platform, Holden's rival in this summer's Democratic primary - state Auditor Claire McCaskill - sat in silence.
Among other things, Richardson said that Holden deserved praise for helping to resurrect the state's economy in troubled times, which Richardson blamed largely on the Republicans controlling Congress and the White House. "You're one of the 10 states with job growth," Richardson added.
