GOP senators to hold `frank discussion' on healthcare in Hialeah (FL)
Source: Miami Herald

.....

Republican Sen. Mel Martinez is organizing a closed-door meeting at Palmetto General Hospital in Hialeah on Tuesday. Sens. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the Republican leader, and John McCain of Arizona, the former presidential nominee, are also scheduled to address the crowd in their third joint appearance aimed at presenting the GOP's closing arguments against an overhaul of the healthcare system.

Like their joint appearances Monday and Tuesday morning in Kansas City and Charlotte, N.C., the Tuesday afternoon event in Hialeah will be open to the press but closed to the public.

.....

``This is going to be a frank discussion with healthcare providers, patients and other stakeholders to air concerns about the current system and what steps Congress should take to address the problems,'' Martinez said in a news release.

But AFL-CIO members, who are planning to protest outside, have a different view of the event. ``Both senators will be talking about healthcare reform with a hand-picked audience of doctors and health insurance executives.

"Closed to the public" is all we need to know about the intentions of these people.

McConnell, McCain and Martinez.

3. Sounds like a campaign fundraiser disguised as a
health care summit. You can bet those insurance execs are bringing their company checkbooks along.

4. I just have to wonder, isn't it upsetting to the gop base when repugs have so many closed meetings?
First we had Bush/Cheney campaigning in a bubble, requiring someone sign an oath of loyalty. Now we have scum like Mcconnell having meetings close to the public. If I were still a part of the gop I'd certainly find it upsetting. Disrupt free discussion of ideas and close off the meetings you hold. I didn't like it when Obama met with health insurers behind closed doors either.

10. Mr. McConnell my state's senator
has never been here in his home state for an explanation about any thing. So What the hell is he doing in Florida when he doesn't have enough courage or sense to come home?
