Plaxico Burress agrees to 2-year sentence
Source: CBS Sportsline

NEW YORK -- Former New York Giants receiver Plaxico Burress pleaded guilty to a weapons charge and agreed to a two-year prison term for accidentally shooting himself at a Manhattan nightclub.

The ex-wide receiver pleaded guilty Thursday morning to one count of attempted criminal possession of a weapon, a lesser charge than he initially faced. Under a plea agreement, he agreed to a two-year prison sentence and two years of supervised release.

Burress was indicted earlier this month on two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and one count of reckless endangerment. He faced a minimum sentence of 3 1/2 years if convicted at a trial.

Burress' sentencing is set for Sept. 22.

17. I think the minimum he can do is 20 months, from what I read.
But I am not a lawyer, and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, either.

5. each individual have/will serve their time - write your cogressman
if your not happy with what they were sentenced to. No one crime is greater then the other, and if you believe it is then shame on you. A concealed weapon has the potential to kill countless humans. IF the NFL accepts him back, he too I will welcome with open arms...provided his actions prove he deserves it - as Vick.

7. Huh?
So you believe in crimes of potential and not actual crimes? A car has the potential to kill a great many more people than a gun considering a guns ammo is limited. Maybe vehicular deaths should merit longer sentences.

8. the "justice" system in this country is FUBAR . . .
- mandatory sentences that make no sense . . .

- judicial discretion to put someone away for life for pot possession . . .

- "three strikes and you're out" laws, even if the third strike is a misdemeanor . . .

- and now a two-year plea bargain to avoid the mandatory 3-1/2 years for possession of an unlicensed weapon -- when others who cause death and dismemberment by driving drunk get six months and some community service, and someone who tortured and killed innumerable animals does his 18 months and is back playing football for millions of dollars . . .

none of it makes any sense to me . . .

13. Burress and Stalworth
I am not going to defend Stalworth but there were mitigating factors in his case. The person he killed jumped onto the road from a hillside because he was trying to catch a bus at 5:00 a.m. Stalworth stayed at the scene and called the police himself. I do not and will not excuse his drunk driving because someone with that amount of money should hire a driver. Burress brought a loaded gun into a public place where it subsequently discharged. he then attempted to obstruct justice by giving the gun to Antonio Pierce who took the gun to his home in New Jersey. As a prior poster has stated the gun laws in New York City are very strict and Burress knew he was in trouble.

18. Whether or not you agree with the sentence, gotta admit it's a bit humorous
(in a macabre sort of way) that someone shoots himself (as if that isn't punishment enough) and then has to go to jail for it. Talk about no luck at all!!!
