Man detained by Secret Service in Hagerstown, MD
Source: Baltimore Sun

HAGERSTOWN - Authorities in Hagerstown said they turned over to the Secret Service a man who was holding a sign reading "Death to Obama" outside Wednesday's town hall meeting on health care reform.

Washington County sheriff's Capt. Peter Lazich said the sign also read, "Death to Michelle and her two stupid kids." He said Secret Service agents took the unidentified 51-year-old man into custody after deputies detained him.

The Secret Service did not immediately return telephone calls from the Associated Press inquiring about the matter.

President Barack Obama was not at the meeting held by Maryland Democratic Sen. Benjamin L. Cardin

Thank goodness the Secret Service is taking this kind of shit seriously. This makes me physically ill.

23. What if the US Gov. adopted a NYC/Bloomberg Homeless relocation plan them for these folks?
We could offer a free ticket to any Country in the World. Maybe one where the Government has little to no control over it's people. Wait...Actually, I don't know of any. They either kill their own people in mass genocides or they are socialist and actually provide for the less fortunate like this moron who undoubtedly benefits from Government programs anyway.

Somalia would be nice I think.

5. Fined?
They should be jailed. And I don't just say this for republicans. Dems that did that to Bush and his kids belong in prison too.

17. That was my first inclination
but unless they're jailed for a long time (at the taxpayer's expense... uh... NO) I don't know what good it will do, and it might just fuel their anger.

But okay. Let's jail 'em and fine them.

4. I'd like to see the Secret Service arresting some of the
online threateners. Sadly, I doubt there is enough staff to manage that. Still, we should all be reporting all threats we find directly to the Secret Service. Make sure they're direct threats, though. They're not going to expend resources on vague, unspecified threats to authority in general.

8. You would almost think that the obvious whackjob isn't the serious whackjob.
On the one hand anyone stupid enough to carry a sign about his intentions might actually be a problem.
On the other hand, someone serious about causing harm probably isn't going to announce it.

I was scouring Youtube and websites that had pictures of the Hagerstown event, but I couldn't find anything.

Thank god they got him.

If any Town Hall attendees see any of this kind of thing, takes pictures or video that identifies the faces of these people.

15. Remember Richard Humphreys
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x846568

ast December, Richard Humphreys of Portland, Oregon, was sentenced to 37 months in prison for threatening to harm or kill President Bush. A bartender in Watertown, South Dakota reported Humphreys to the police after he overheard him talking to a truck driver about a "burning Bush" and the possibility that someone might douse the president with flammable liquid and light it. In his defense, Humphreys testified: "I said, 'God might speak to the world through a burning Bush.' I had said that before, and I thought it was funny."

This guy is someone who is truly dangerous and needs to be detained---He has taken his 1st amendment rights TOO far and is doing the equivalent of yelling fire in a crowded theater.

Probably not for long . . . and then it's on to his fifteen minutes of Faux outrage over free speech being crushed and another martyr is created.

not meet the immanence prong of Brandenburg. I doubt he will be on anyone's show however - too hot even for faux.

33. We'll see how serious they are
I think a few people got jailed for threatening Bush - here's one.

NEW ORLEANS - A LOUISIANA man charged with threatening to kill President George W. Bush professed his innocence in court on Tuesday, then started sobbing after a federal magistrate ordered him jailed.

A social worker told Secret Service agents that Gregory Broussard, 44, was being treated in a hospital emergency room on Dec 29 when he threatened to kill the president and to blow up the White House.

An agent wrote in court papers that Broussard told them 'if the voice of God instructs him to kill the president, he would follow the instructions.' Broussard didn't enter a plea but told US Magistrate Louis Moore Jr that he is not guilty of the charge.

'I'm nervous because I read this (agent's affidavit), and they've got a lot of stuff against me,' Broussard said. 'This is blowing up in my face.'

35. Apparently he was released after interview
At least that's how I'm interpreting this. But he will sure be in their files at some threat level I bet.

The Secret Service did not take the man into custody, Golden said.

But it’s an ongoing investigation, said Golden, who referred other questions to the Secret Service’s public affairs office.

The sad thing is that the only good jobs there for the average Joe are union jobs... Unions that they despise.

Other than that, there's awful slim pickins.
