Chechen activist, husband found dead in car trunk

SHALAZHI, Russia — The bullet-riddled bodies of a Chechen activist and her husband were found in the trunk of their car Tuesday, the latest in a string of high-profile killings in Chechnya under its Kremlin-backed leader.

Zarema Sadulayeva and her husband, Alik Dzhabrailov, both 33, had been abducted on Monday from the offices of Save the Generation, the children's charity she runs in the southern Russian republic.

Her relatives, who gathered in her home village of Shalazhi for her burial on Tuesday, said the men who took the couple away identified themselves as police.

The killings followed last month's kidnapping and shooting death of one of Chechnya's best-known rights activists, Nataliya Estemirova, whose body was found on a roadside. As head of Memorial rights group's Chechen branch, Estemirova had exposed alleged rights abuses by the forces of Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov.

The Kremlin-backed leader of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, said in a radio interview that a human rights activist whose bullet-ridden body was found in a neighboring province last month "never had any honor, dignity or conscience." I'm guessing this guy and his cronies have blood on their hands. Kadyrov was quoted as saying Estemirova "peddled all kinds of rubbish" in her investigations of torture, corruption, killings and disappearances that implicated official involvement. I guess there can't be any truth to that -- right?

2. Wow, what a dumb-ass statement.
When was the last time a peace activist and family here found dead in their trunk?

6. Aaaa.. Dr Tiller. Where do you live?
Look up the scientists that have died strange and untimely deaths in the US over the past eight years. Your rudeness does not go unnoticed.

9. Yeah, a lot less journalists, doctors and activists get killed in Russia...
Then the US. Come off it and I was rude because of the grade-school level of the post.

Please provide examples of these mysterious deaths.

5. Yeah, like remember when Cindy Sheehan
disappeared for a while then turned up dead in the trunk of her own car.

They are exactly like the US.

4. People like that should seek asylum here or elsewhere. Let Russia crack up. I
say this being half Russian but really feel it is too dangerous there lately and not worth it. They are embarrassing themselves.

7. Kafirov the Lesser has been knocking off rivals and activists for quite some time now
Kafirov belives "human rights activists" and "terrorists" are the same thing. He is a tyrant and worshipper of the butcher Putin, but trust that Emir Umarov will soon be taking care of him, just as Emir Basayev took care of his equally satanic father a few years ago.
