BY MATTHEW DOLAN
Ford Motor Co. saw an increase in its July sales, the first year-over-year jump for the auto maker in almost two years, according to the company's sales analyst.

The increase was the first reported by any of the six largest auto makers since August 2008 and the first bump up for Ford since November 2007,
sales analyst George Pipas said in an interview Sunday.

Ford's positive news came as uncertainty continued to swirl about the future of the wildly popular "Cash for Clunkers" government voucher program for new car sales. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said the Obama administration would honor ...

1. Amazing what can happen when the government pays people to buy your cars.
...and all of your domestic competition goes bankrupt...

2. Take that all you nay sayers
Cash for clunkers is a success.

This type of incentive would have done more for the economy than any money they have thrown at the banks. FAR MORE.

It drives people to spend and sorry to say it, our economy needs spending to thrive.

5. Yep, and if our government took what it puts into war for one month
into the "cash for clunkers" program, and what it spends in three months on green energy we wouldn't "need" to be in the Middle East at all.

But then, that would upset the current power structure. Can't have that!

11. Do you have a link showing the numerical impact on Ford's sales?
Edited on Mon Aug-03-09 02:00 AM by Psephos
I'm not a nay-sayer, but I'm not a yay-sayer either. Until I see the numbers. ;)

One thing I don't like about C4C is that you can use a US govt. voucher to buy a foreign car. We shouldn't be paying for outsourced car subsidies to non-American workers and companies.

12. Ford to Post U.S. Sales Gain as ‘Clunkers’ Cash Buoys Industry
Aug. 3 (Bloomberg) -- Ford Motor Co. will post its first monthly U.S. sales increase since 2007 as the government’s “cash-for-clunkers” incentives boosted industrywide deliveries of new vehicles to the highest levels of this year.

Details will be released today when Ford joins automakers in announcing July deliveries, said Ken Czubay, the company’s U.S. sales and marketing chief. He disclosed the year-over-year improvement in an interview yesterday without giving specifics.

Industry sales probably ran at an annual rate of more than 10 million autos, 2009’s best showing, after the trade-in credits stoked consumers’ interest, said George Pipas, Ford’s sales analyst. Such a result may indicate a bottom in the market’s worst slump since 1976.

9. Says it wouldn't have happened but for the last week in July
...e.g. during the Clunkers Craze.

This is, however, good news. Ford has leaned on its truck sales in the past, and the Clunkers stuff is by definition cars, not trucks.

Ford: take the hint. ;)

It will eventually be the end of that company.
