McGreevey aide cleared in parole board probe
TRENTON, N.J. -- There is no evidence that a top aide to Gov. James E. McGreevey improperly intervened in the early parole of reputed mobster, state prosecutors have determined.

The finding regarding the probe of James Davy was announced in a letter issued by state Attorney General Peter Harvey. It was made public Monday, the same day a state Senate panel approved Davy's nomination as commissioner of the Department of Human Services.

When asked about the matter by some Judiciary Committee members, Davy denied playing any role in the release of Angelo Prisco, a reputed leader in the Genovese crime family. Davy's nomination now goes to the full Senate for a vote.

"Davy is not a target of any investigation being conducted by our office, (and) we are not aware of any criminal conduct engaged in by Mr. Davy," Harvey wrote in the letter sent last week to Sen. John Adler, D-Camden, the chairman of the senate's Judiciary Committee. Adler had asked Harvey for information about the Davy inquiry.
