Israeli archaeologists said on Sunday they had discovered the largest underground quarry in the Holy Land, dating back to the time of Jesus and containing Christian symbols etched into the walls.

The 4,000-square-meter (yard) cavern, buried 10 meters beneath the desert near the ancient West Bank city of Jericho, was dug about 2,000 years ago and was in use for about half a millennium, archaeologist Adam Zertal said.

6. oh for pity's sake. let's abandon this shit about who is really indigenous
to that area and stipulate that they all live there and had ancestors who lived there.

11. What a completely idiotic remark.
Try for history instead of propaganda.

Or we can go your way and I'll remind you it was likely a Palestinian Hezbullah who murdered Neda Salehi yesterday. Following their tradition of murder.

3. Exciting discovery
However the NYT must be criticized for dumbing down the measurements by equating a square meter to a square yard. If the area of the cavern is 4,000 sq.m then it is roughly 4,784 sq. yards.

4. Oh Noz! And to think we are bombing the crap out of these
Christian sites!
Oops I mean Israel is bombing those Christians sites in Palestine and possibly there are many others they are destroying! We have to intervene now and save those sites!
Since those are ancient Christian sites I am sure they will find a lot of dinosaur bones there too and probably oil! :P
As to these people calling that land "Holy" (the same ones who are bombing the crap out of it or supporting those that are bombing the land and stealing it from those descendants of those early Christians)...I have news for them. ALL of the Earth is Holy to many of us and not just a few miles in the deserts of the middle east.

8. I am aware Israel is not bombing this site...
But they are bombing in Palestine and they do not know what they might be destroying.
Is that so hard for you to understand before you rattle your mouth?
