Wichita anti-abortion groups (Operation Rescue) report death threats
Source: mcclatchy

WICHITA, Kan. — Three Wichita-based anti-abortion groups say they have received death threats in response to last month’s killing of abortion provider George Tiller.

For years, Operation Rescue has received threats, but the number increased dramatically after Tiller’s killing, the group’s president, Troy Newman, said Thursday.

Some of the threats have been aimed at anti-abortion activities planned in Wichita this weekend, Newman said.

Soon after Tiller’s shooting, police contacted four to five local anti-abortion groups, asking them to contact authorities if they received threats, said Wichita police Capt. Brent Allred.

to the cries for help from these murdering organizations. Threats? Ought to find out where these leaders(anti-choice)live and picket their homes and places of employment. Publish their phone numbers and addresses and find out where their kids go to school.

Remember the right wing response to the Bush Twins at Chili's.

18. excuse my cynicism
and this in no way means I support terrorism or vigilanteism.

But when anti-choice activists start getting Bombs and anthrax letters and being shot in churches, maybe then I will feel sorry for them.

Assuming this is even for real.

These guys spent decades building up hate and justifying violence over this issue.

And now they are surprised when some people get angry enough to consider hate and violence?

41. Since when is a threat to throw coat-hangers or punches at people
who are getting in the way of a legal, potentially necessary, medical procedure Death Threats? Unless someone went out of self-control because a relative or friend died instead of having a safe, legal abortion, the chances of Pro-Choice proponent threatening anything stronger other than legal activity or mild vandalism or battery (I know, that could be potentially fatal if over-done) against someone that is anti-choice are very slim.
The Pro-Choice movement may have it's crazies, but it tends to turn them in quickly when they start getting dangerous. I've seen crazies get away with a lot - heck, encouraged to get away with as much as they can - in the Anti-Choice movement.

After, who is it that thinks they have a mandate from some Angry-Old-Man-In-The-Sky?

You're kidding, right?

For Pete's sake people, this isn't "us as the holy army of goodness and reason" and "them as the horde of barbarian swine". It's just as bad to hear this from our side as it is to hear it from theirs.

46. Unfortunately, it becomes "us vs. them" when one "side" of the debate claims
it is. Pro-Choice does not mean Pro Abortion - and in many cases, Pro-Choice providers will not do a controversial abortion procedure if it does not meet certain criteria. However, having spent some time as an escort for women who had made that difficult choice, and have access to news accounts - and remembering the time before Roe v Wade very clearly and how woman's health was viewed back then - my experience is that those who call themselves "Pro-Life" are, for the majority of the time, are actually "Anti Choice". These people are perfectly willing to tar Pro-Choice health workers, Woman's Health Clinics, and women who seek abortions as part of some sort of evil activity - perhaps not an active evil force, but definitely an evil to be stopped. These are the majority of people in my experience who are Anti-Choice.

You can be Pro-Life and Pro-Choice. I am. My husband is. If I were to become pregnant, or if his daughter was to become pregnant, we would still want the choice - for reasons of health, both physical and mental, and to ensure that we are in the position to raise our children. I have stood by as a friend and neutral sounding board to several women who have had to make that choice - and made every effort not to tell them what to do, just to let them know that whatever their decision, I'd still be a friend.

However, almost to a person, those I am acquainted with who call themselves "Pro Life" will attempt to - and have - bullied women who might have questions as to whether or not having a baby would be the best outcome.
I certainly can't be around them when they "discuss" the issue of abortion - there is no discussion, only some sort of weird pseudo-scientific mix of religion and self-righteous personal bias that almost always ends up with this mantra - "Being Pro-Choice is accepting killing of an innocent human being and those who are pro choice are misguided at best, sadistic killers at worst."

And that's why it becomes "us verses them". Most Pro-Choice people could care less, one way or another. They don't see it as killing of an innocent human being unless it is a viable fetus or a wanted pregnancy where a human being could actually be born to and raised by a loving parent. Most follow "if you don't believe in abortion, don't have one."
But Anti-Choice people, by claiming humanity is determined at or soon after conception cannot help but attempt to defend that humanity if they are going to be true to their "Pro Life" creed.
There is a difference between an active credo and a passive credo for the majority of people who will gather on one side or the other. And to those with an active belief, it almost always ends up "us v them". Someone's gotta be the victim to be protected.

Haele

44. this is what happens when the govt fails to protect the rights of women
when it allows hate groups to call for the murder of doctors who perform essential services.

what happens is that people feel they cannot trust their govt to protect their rights and both sides become vigilantes.

what NEEDS TO happen is prosecutions for hate crimes against doctors who provide abortions.

web sites that give out personal info on doctors need to be shut down.

Randall Terry needs to spend some time with the FBI talking about his calls to "take a bullet."

Republican leaders need to tell Fox News to stop their fascist rants against women's health.
