CIA head says Cheney almost wishing US be attacked
Source: Associated Press

WASHINGTON – CIA Director Leon Panetta says former Vice President Dick Cheney's criticism of the Obama administration's approach to terrorism almost suggests "he's wishing that this country would be attacked again, in order to make his point."

Panetta told The New Yorker for an article in its June 22 issue that Cheney "smells some blood in the water" on the issue of national security.

Cheney has said in several interviews that he thinks Obama is making the U.S. less safe. He has been critical of Obama for ordering the closure of the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, halting enhanced interrogations of suspected terrorists and reversing other Bush administration initiatives he says helped to prevent attacks on the U.S.

<snip>

Panetta said of Cheney's remarks: "It's almost, a little bit, gallows politics. When you read behind it, it's almost as if he's wishing that this country would be attacked again, in order to make his point. I think that's dangerous politics."

wish for another attack? Even he would be "PC" enough to deny it, but I believe in his cold, dark, electronically-amplified and assisted heart, he truly prays for another attack before he "kicks" the mortal coil. I have NO doubt.

29. Maybe Cheney, in his infinite wisdom and love of keeping the American people safe,
is just using reverse psychology on the terrorists. By insisting we're less safe, he's going to trick the terrorists into conspiring to make us more safe.

32. Were not the attacks of 9-11 most fortuitous in clearing the way for Cheney to implement
the longed-for RW PNAC agenda and making 2001 a very good year for junior and Laura? Please refute if these seeming truisms are but mere left-of-center poppycock. :P

44. 9/11 was Cheney's moment in the sun. Of course, he yearns
for the drama, the excitement, the meaning of it. Yes, he is that demonic. Of course, he is quite nice about it, but then, have you ever seen the pictures of Adolf Hitler greeting German children? It's all smiles and flowers, I assure you. I'm not comparing Adolf Hitler to Cheney. I'm just saying that simply because a person can smile and be courteous does not mean they are not demonic. Authorizing torture is demonic. Starting a war for no good reason based on bad evidence is demonic.

4. This was mentioned on MTP as well, in the Biden interview.
Biden stepped away from it a bit, graciously, saying he had never judged a person's motives in his years in politics, but had disagreed with a person's action. The Panetta quote was front and center, not just read but printed on the screen, though. And Biden let it stand at that.

Gregory was trying to rope Biden into taking a stand, agreeing or disagreeing, but Biden deftly let Panetta make the case. Gregory had to move on.

If he really believes that, to announce it to the world is an invitation.

I would not be at all shocked if he helped set up an attack, slipped a little key information to some eager terrorists. He is rotten to the core; nothing short of him being Satan come to life, would shock me.

18. I'm glad somebody finally said this. Sure feels like it to me, too.
I wouldn't be surprised if he's called his pal "Curveball" or ahmed chalabi to try to get something started - just so he can go back on "Meet the Press" and say "I TOLD YOU SO." I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he's up to some black ops with his pal eric prince and the former Blackwater (now Xe) people. I shudder to think who and what he has listed in his own "little black book." And as he gets more desperate that the facts keep failing him, it would NOT surprise me in the least if he tried to put his proverbial thumb on the scale again.

51. Biden handled this very well on MTP this a.m., as follows:
"MR. GREGORY: You know Dick Cheney well. Leon Panetta, head of the CIA, told the New Yorker this about his recent speech: "I think smells some blood in the water on the national security issue. It's almost, a little bit, gallows politics. When you read behind it, it's almost as if he's wishing that this country would be attacked again, in order to make his point. I think that's dangerous politics." Do you agree with that?

VICE PRES. BIDEN: Look, I, I, I learned a long time ago from a guy named Mike Mansfield, never question another man's motive. You've never once heard me in my entire career question a man's motive. I think Dick Cheney's judgment about how to secure America is faulty. I think our judgment is correct. I don't question his motive."

BTW, what the hell is Panetta saying anyway? When someone "almost" makes a wish--no matter what it is--that's dangerous politics?

"Panetta said of Cheney's remarks: "It's almost, a little bit, gallows politics. When you read behind it, it's almost as if he's wishing that this country would be attacked again, in order to make his point. I think that's dangerous politics.'"

Did any so-called journalist even ask him what he meant? Or do we accept any droppings from the mouth of someone in government?

98. Wishing for an end to the brutal, unjustifiable aggression of one state against another
is not the same as wishing, as a result of political motives, for your own country to be attacked. The logic that equates the two must be tortuous.

Then, if -- heaven forbid -- something should happen, more Americans will show the skepticism they've lacked up to this point.

I think Cheney's statements are way more threatening than any of the periodic Osama Bin Laden bogey man videos.

Yes....Dick would love to see the homeland attacked. He doesn't care if innocent Americans are harmed or killed as long as he can gloat that he was right that not torturing people meant that Obama was making the country less safe. He is a prick royale.

Ya just can't going around being the bully of the World and not expect SOMEONE to attack you in the future.

Millions killed/maimed/displaced by the USA's aggression in the last few decades -

Generations of hate being created across the globe

Someone, if not many, will be trying to avenge these atrocities in the future.

You don't get away with slaughtering people's families and loved ones without paying . .

sooner or later.

78. re: Cheney wishing US be attacked again
HELLO, HELLO, WHAT THE HELL ELSE IS NEW!

There is now absolute iron clad proof found right from the US government’s own web sites and source that show that the attacks on 9/11 were deliberately and intentionally allowed by people in our own government. There is even evidence that shows this was most likely intentionally allowed by people in the Bush White House.

So this new information is absolutely consistent with what happened in the attacks on 9/11. So, the question is, why would anybody be surprised at this news?

Blackwater, Cheney's Secret Army, Changes Name to "Xe". Beware!

In the last eight years, many of the tasks formerly associated with the U.S. military have been privatized and outsourced in a wholesale way—from guard duty for U.S. diplomats to peeling potatoes and delivering the mail, not to speak of building and maintaining the U.S. bases that now dot the Middle East and Afghanistan. Without its private crony corporations, the Pentagon might be on something like life support. Blackwater operates a military training operation that is larger than the boot camps and training units in many of the world's militaries.

http://www.samspadesf.com/2009/02/blackwater-cheneys-secret-army-changes.html

Cheney still has ties to all his old buddies, he has the money and friends that use oil as a reason to get in and out of any country in the world. They could hire guns, say in Nigeria to disrupt oil supply that kicks up oil prices. Cheney has showed his ability to go around any laws even international laws of torture without prosecution, he still has a large amount of power that could do about anything.

Conspiracy theory or to conspire to cover your own ass anyway necessary, to be continued……………..

86. Naturally
Why is this a surprise? 9/11 allowed Cheney (and it's increasingly clear that he was in the driver's seat of that administration) to ram through every police-state, liberty destroying measure he wanted at home, kick off two wars he wanted abroad and provice hundreds of lucrative boondoggles for his buddies in the business class. Another attack, especially on Obama's watch, would let the Republicans (assissted by their collaborators in the MSM) blame it on Obama, remove him from power if possible (Insta-impeachment procedings) and certainly ensure he loses the following election. That would put the R's back in charge with Cheney either in the admin of pulling strings. There is a decent argument that the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq were deliberately designed to devolve into this clusterf*ck for similar reasons.

Yes, he really is that coldbloodedly evil. Even his friends call him Darth.

Look, I don't like to do this very often but criminology and criminal psychology are hobbies of mine. I'm not professionally qualified, just a very well read amateur but in this case, I don't need to be qualified because Cheney's entire manner and history scream "PSYCHOPATH" at deafening volume. I'm using that word in it's full technical sense. The psychopath is not always violent (although I really wouldn't be surprised to discover Cheney had a hobby of dismembering hitchhikers) but they completely lack conscience, empathy or inhibitions. Everything in the psychopath's life, every decision they make, is based on how much it would benefit them. That is the only factor that comes into play. You know that little voice in your head that tells you to play by society's rules (mostly)? That you shouldn't smack the guy taking an age at the ATM or the counter idiot at Burger King who can't comprehend "hold the pickles"? Psychopaths don't have that. Their only consideration is how much it would benefit them and what the likely consequences would be.

When 9/11 happened, Cheney didn't care about the 3000-or-so dead. His only consideration was how it could be used to his advantage. Two wars, draconian national security laws and however many dead later, that is still the only thing he cares about. The theory of deliberately botching the wars follows that. If the wars were quickly won (which was possible), what does Cheney get out of it? Not much. Plus they would start pumping oil in Iraq, bringing the price down. However, if both areas are plunged into chaos, no oil can be moved, pushing the price up and adding to Cheney's fortune. OK, a lot of people will die but what does he care? It's not him or his loved ones (yes, psychopath's can feel love although not in the same way that we do) on the firing line so they don't matter to him in the slightest.

This man shouldn't be on a talk show. He should be in a secure facility somewhere.

109. Cheney didn't "let" 9/11 happen
Cheney MADE 9/11 happen. Reports by bonafide engineers say that the planes, even with fully loaded fuel tanks could not have brought down the twin towers in such a short time. The key is that the security company owned by one of Bush's brother removed the bomb sniffing dogs shortly before the attack.

95. At Justice, according to the magazine, the cases have languished.
Helgerson also said he had sent several cases involving CIA interrogations to the Justice Department for possible prosecution. In one from November 2003, termed a homicide, an Iraqi detainee at the Abu Ghraib prison died from asphyxiation after being hooded and hung by his arms while suffering from broken ribs.

....
CIA Director Leon Panetta fired Mitchell, Jessen & Associates and all other contractors that aided the CIA in its interrogations of alleged terrorists, the New Yorker reported this weekend.

The firings took place in April, around the same time the Senate Armed Services Committee reported on the role played by James Mitchell and Bruce Jessen in developing "countermeasures to defeat" the resistance of captured enemy detainees from whom intelligence was being sought.

" He also said he supported at one time the creation of a "truth commission" to look into the subject. But after Obama said in late April that he did not want to look as if he was going after either former president George W. Bush or former vice president Richard B. Cheney, Panetta said, "everyone kind of backed away from it."

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/06/14/AR2009061402819.html

The unanimity of the targets........Panetta called Cheney's actions "dangerous politics."
