TEHRAN, June 14 (Reuters) - Defeated presidential candidate Mirhossein Mousavi formally appealed against Iran's election result on Sunday to the legislative body, the Guardian Council, a statement on his website said.

"Today, I have submitted my official formal request to the council to cancel the election result," Mousavi said in the statement. "I urge you Iranian nation to continue your nationwide protests in a peaceful and legal way." (Tehran newsroom; Tel [phone])

1. As far as I'm aware

only the Guardian Council , who have already declared a winner, could rescind that decision.

The fact remains that some of the statements coming out of the USA are cynical compared with the complete absense of such remarks when exactly the same happened in Georgia and Azerbaijan.
