N.S. voters elect 1st NDP government
Source: CBC News

Nova Scotia has its first NDP government — and a majority government at that.

CBC News projects a historic win for Darrell Dexter's New Democratic Party, ending a decade of Progressive Conservative rule in the province.

It also marks the first time since 2003 that Nova Scotia has had a majority government.

"Who would believe that NDP orange would cover Nova Scotia from Cumberland County," a jubilant Dexter said before being drowned out by applause from supporters at party headquarters in Dartmouth, "right down through the Valley, as far south as Shelburne County and right on through to Cape Breton Island."

After the votes were counted Tuesday, the New Democrats swept in with 31 seats in the 52-seat legislature. A party needs 27 seats for a majority.

There's an error in the article (as of right now); the seats at dissolution are reversed. The Liberals actually had 20 seats to the NDP's nine.

Either way, score!

8. NDP will need a fairly timely economic rebound...
or this could be Rae part deux.

Getting into power this late into the economic slowdown is a good thing though - a few months earlier and they would have had to take blame for the shitburger (which they would have had nothing to do with) whereas now they will get to take credit for the recovery (which they will have nothing to do with). Politics, like real estate, has three important factors - timing! timing! timing!
