Man charged with threat against Obama in Utah
1 hr 26 mins ago

SALT LAKE CITY – Federal prosecutors have charged a man with making threats against President Barack Obama after he allegedly told a bank employee in Utah he was on a mission to kill the president.

The Salt Lake Tribune reported on its Web site Thursday that Daniel James Murray allegedly made the remark to a teller at a bank in St. George on May 27 as he withdrew $13,000 from an account.

Murray's whereabouts are unknown. A court affidavit says Murray is from New York and has recently been in California, Utah, Georgia, Oklahoma and possibly Texas.

The U.S. Secret Service says Murray has at least eight registered firearms, the Tribune reported.

My general impression of that state is they aren't very pro-Obama.

Feds Search for Man Allegedly on 'Mission to Kill the President'
A Warrant Has Been Issued for the Arrest of Daniel James Murray
By JACK DATE
June 4, 2009

Murray entered Zion's First National Bank in St. George, Utah on May 19, to open a savings account with an $85,000 check ... and then stated, according to the complaint, "With all this mess going on under President Obama with banks and the economy, I'm sure if citizens happen to lose their money, they will rise up and we could see killing and deaths."

On May 27, the complaint states, Murray came back to withdraw $12,698 from his savings account. He did not have proper identification and was told he needed it to complete the transaction. He allegedly said, "Not to be disrespectful, but if I don't get this money, someone is going to die" ...

Murray then said, "We are on a mission to kill the president of the United States," according to the complaint ...

The next day, according to the complaint, Murray withdrew the remaining $72,000 and closed his account ...

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/story?id=7761620&page=1

The bank gave him $12K in unsequential bills of size $50 or less, despite the fact that he had inadequate ID and made death threats. Why wasn't he picked up on the 28th?

16. Geez...
I've worked in banks for years and there's no way that should have happened. We would have required 72 hours before giving out that much cash, and would have filed a SAR based on his behavior. Law Enforcement would have been waiting for him when he came back for the money.

28. From before the Patriot Act, even...
Any cash transaction(s) totalling over $10,000 in one day requires the bank to fill out a Currency Transaction Report (CTR), and the teller has to document the ID# on that. Plus the Suspicious Activity Report (SAR), which his behavior warranted. Beyond that, common-sense red flags should have been flying all over the place. Either the branch staff or the bank's security department should have gotten law enforcement involved early on.

Thanks for the welcome!

Murray returned on May 27 and asked to withdraw about $13,000 in bills no larger than $50 and in nonsequential order, court documents say. He allegedly said, "We are 94 million miles from the sun, and are in between the sun and moon, and the eagle that flies between them, and it's a giant step for mankind ... I have traveled thousands of miles to be here and know things that are going to happen ... the banking system will fail and people will die ... there will be chaos in the world."

Then, as a teller handed Murray his money, he allegedly said, "We are on a mission to kill the president of the United States."

Murray returned the next day and withdrew the rest of his money, court documents
say.

Authorities say Murray drives a blue 2001 Buick LeSabre with New York license plate ERL 1445.

The Secret Service says the firearms registered to Murray include semi-automatic pistols and revolvers.

What I'm wondering is if the "we" he spoke of was was himself and his delusions, or if there may be others involved who may have been exploiting his apparent mental illness?

More deregulation--a field day for Halliburton and Blackwater (greedy war profiteers), a fekked up boondoggle of a war (10 billion a month?), a free for all for the rich and infamous; and this guy is blaming it all on Obama who's been in office about six months? Source: CNN

(CNN) -- Federal authorities are searching for a man who has at least eight guns registered to him and has threatened to kill President Obama.

The man, identified as Daniel James Murray, is charged with making threats against the president of the United States.

He recently withdrew $85,000 from a Utah bank and told a teller: "We are on a mission to kill the president of the United States," according to court papers.

49. WTF is wrong with this bank manager?
Eight days later, Murray returned and tried to withdraw $12,698. He flipped out when a teller turned him down because he lacked proper identification.
"Not to be disrespectful, but if I don't get this money, someone is going to die," he said, the court say.
The teller then fetched the bank manager, who okayed Murray's withdrawal. He also agreed to Murray's request for no bills larger than $50 - and in non-sequential order.

57. I remember when I worked in a retail store
I remember when I worked in a retail store a number of years ago, part of the training was that they did not want any heroes if there was ever an armed robbery situation or anything similar. It was better to give the guy what he wanted and let him go rather than risk one's own life as well as the lives of other employees and customers and try to be a hero and stop him. Law enforcement could always catch the guy later on and even if not money and property wasn't as important as the lives of the employees and customers.

The manager probably fell back into his or her training when they had a guy in the bank saying people are going to die if he doesn't get his money. Give the guy what he wanted so he'd leave and not endanger bank employees and other customers was probably what the manager was thinking.

Federal agents were pursuing Murray, 36, after he told a Utah bank manager he was "on a mission to kill" Obama.
