(CNN) -- The daughter of actor Billy Bob Thornton has been arrested in Florida on charges of child neglect resulting in the death of an infant, police said Sunday.

Friday's arrest of Amanda Brumfield stemmed from an incident in which a child fell, said Officer Lee Stevens of the Ocoee, Florida, police. No other details were available Sunday.

Thornton's publicist, Arnold Robinson, said the actor is estranged from his daughter "and has had no contact with her for quite some time."

"When informed about this situation, he (Thornton) commented that, 'Anytime a baby's life is lost is an unimaginable tragedy and my heart goes out to the baby's family and loved ones,' " Robinson told CNN in a written statement.

The oldest daughter of Billy Bob Thornton faces charges in the death of a 1-year-old girl she was babysitting in October, a celebrity gossip Web site reported Sunday.

Brumfield told detectives that a girl she was babysitting hit her head in a fall in an Ocoee home on Oct. 3, Detective James Berish said in a news release. Brumfield called for help more than two hours later when she couldn't revive the girl, police in the city near Orlando said.

An autopsy determined the girl had a fractured skull and brain injury. The medical examiner ruled the death a homicide and said the explanation Brumfield gave was inconsistent with the child's injuries, police said.

8. Billy Bob has lived an entire world of hurt

Just what he's gone through in a decade as a celebrity ... like losing several of his close friends (including Warren Zevon and John Ritter, both of whom he knew "back in the day"), the fishbowl romance with Angelina Jolie, struggles with addiction, phobias, and OCD ... say a prayer for the madmen who earn their title through pain rather than practice.

I feel bad for Ms Brumfield, too, estrangement or not. The practice of immediately arresting the loved ones of people who die has always struck me as ghoulish, in spite of the fact that there is often good reason to do so.

Sometimes the fortunate ... aren't.

17. Oh, please. Who hasn't lost friends? Most people in show business are in a fishbowl. Lots

of people stuggle with addictions and phobias, including people who have lost friends and have lived in a fishbowl. And, unlike Billy Bob, they don't treat other people poorly.

He just gets to work out his issues while having millions of dollars, a really fun career and thousands of fans.

Ocoee police confirmed that 29-year-old Amanda Brumfield is charged with child neglect causing harm or disability and was in custody.

Web site tmz.com reported she is Thornton's daughter, but police spokesman Lee Stephens said the police records department was closed Sunday and he couldn't find out whether Brumfield is related to Thornton.
