Milwaukee Police link seventh death to serial killer

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Milwaukee police say they have linked a seventh case to a serial killer working over more than two decades.

Police Chief Ed Flynn and the Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm announced Monday that officials used DNA evidence to tie the deaths of six women - five of them prostitutes - to one person. They believe that person killed five of the women and had sex with the sixth.

On Tuesday, police said they linked another dead prostitute to the killer.

I read somewhere that there are between 50-100 serial killers operating in the US at any given time.

The latest article I read about serials in general....they are looking at
long haul truckers - pick up the woman in X state, drive hundreds of
miles, killl & dump them 1 - 4 states away from the pickup point.

2. 7 murders over 20 years isn't generally on the public radar

It seems that more often then not the media tends to focus on "spree killers" (many murders over a short period) like the DC sniper case since there's more sensationalism.

As serial killers can go years before killing again I imagine that the cases drop off the public radar after a few months if the killer goes underground. Even then a serial killer who strikes at sex workers (which seems to be the case here) probably gets less attention from the public than someone who was targeting high school/college age females (for example).

3. Twenty years is a long time.

Serial killers usually "burn out" a little sooner than that. The only example to the contrary that I can think of is that guy in Rochester who was imprisoned for a long time and then took up murder at a much later age than usual.

I suppose qualified people are making guesses about that frequency and what's going on in the gaps in between, but the old saw about it being a thirty-five year old white guy driving a red van seems to work less and less these days.

5. a dumb question. Why

do they always? usually? pick a sex worker for the victim? Are they more easily accessible versus Suzy Homemaker? Not putting down Suzy. I have
read of cases where Suzy is grabbed in the mall parking lot etc. But it seems
that most victims are sex workers.

Do they hate women in general? Did Mom fool around on Daddy?
Did Mom have sex with the killer?

Color me confused.

7. Unfortunately, many sex workers hang around truck stops and

willingly enter trucks in the normal course of their day. I can imagine someone working with the same customers and after a while trusting one of them enough to go for a ride.

killer operates similar to a pedophile - grooming the victim, gaining trust, before pouncing.

Now I see why they are looking at the long haul truck drivers.

The few serial cases I can remember, the photos of the dead women all looked similar - skin color, hair color, lips, eyes etc. Now I wonder if that is also true for those who go after the sex workers or if the s/k settles for
anyone.

This is so sad in all aspects. I'm gonna guess there are lots more women
and maybe kids missing that the police don't know about.

I was so relieved when the jerk next door finally moved out. A scary nut. He and a friend trashed the school, were kicked out. 7 months later, they did 7K worth of slashed tires. Would come home late at night, drunk/high.
Caught him one night teasing a opossum. He is definitely missing something. I used to tell SO that kid will some day be the single, white male, age 30-45 everyone is looking for.

that have been sent out for DNA testing.
