19 arrested at Notre Dame protest against Obama
Source: CNN

(CNN) -- Nineteen demonstrators were arrested at Notre Dame University on Saturday as they protested against President Obama's scheduled commencement speech Sunday, campus police said.

The protesters were not students and they were arrested for trespassing when they stepped on the campus, which is private property, Notre Dame police spokesman Dennis Brown told CNN Radio.

Obama's plan to address the university's 2009 graduating class on Sunday has touched off a firestorm. At issue are the president's pro-choice abortion beliefs, which run counter to the Catholic Church's official anti-abortion stance, and his support for federal funding of stem-cell research.

Those views do not sit well with many high-profile Catholics -- both on and off-campus -- who decry the university's choice in speaker and its plans to bestow an honorary degree upon the president.

Where the F were these people when Bush was invited to Notre Dame? Bush doesn't regard human life all that highly but you didn't see this collection of bigots and extremists out complaining when he was invited to Notre Dame.

1. Well, Bush and Cheney were killing brown people.
Since the victims weren't white, that doesn't count.

2. Disgusting
Protesting against their country, against their president, and against the laws of this country. Disrupting a graduation.

A despicable abuse of free speech.

If they don't like America, they should leave and go move to Vatican City.

7. even my mom who is really anti-Obama (bless her) thought this was ridiculous

she also thinks politics should get the hell out of the doctor's office - a reverse wedge issue for the Democrats if they would pick it up and run with it - the far right keeps talking about keeping the government out of people's lives, but forget they hit a wall when it comes to these issues. Let's work it to the advantage of everyone's rights here.

14. according to several reports(not from the msm) that i have heard...
the students are pissed at the off campus protesters. they object to their signs of dead fetus and the rest of the standard far right abortion signage. the students feel these people are perverting their message.
this story is blow way out of proportion by a media that has`t the balls to actually report both sides of this issue.

Pro-life only applies if you're unborn.

After that, you're on your own. Oh...and good luck and God Bless!

21. Well....that's not entirely true.
In addition to unborn, it also applies to forms of life that the right to life crowd thinks could get the GOP votes come election time. You know, like Terri Schiavo. Otherwise, you're right, once the life is born the RTL crowd doesn't really give a shit about human life.

23. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion
Edited on Sun May-17-09 12:42 PM by Union Yes
The argument to ban choice is almost purely based from religion.

That means banning choice is unconstitutional.

Remind pro lifers of the establishment clause written in this replies headline.

Food for thought...

Has anyone ever heard of a anti choice Atheist?
