Franken schools heckler
Source: Politico

On Tuesday night, at Bobby Van’s on 15th Street near the White House, Franken was walking to the coat check after dinner with his wife, Franni; lawyer Marc Elias; and campaign manager Stephanie Schriock when a heckler in the bar said, “Hey, funnyman, tell me a story,” according to a spy at the bar who actually took notes.

Franken turned and asked, “Are you talking to me?” “Yes,” the heckler said. “Come over here and tell me a story.”

“There’s a nice way and a wrong way to ask someone a question,” Franken told the man. “What’s the wrong way?” the heckler asked.

“The way you just asked me,” Franken said. “What’s the nice way?” the man asked, to which Franken replied to come over and ask him politely.

9. we're talking about someone who has the good sense to know
when not to 'perform' because the msm cannot be trusted to convey the story correctly.

Only an amateur would launch into a comedy routine without being paid for it.

42. We are talking about a US Senator elect...
There is a proper way to address someone of his stature and it isn't by yelling "hey funny guy".. I guess Americans don't know anything about manners and protocal... "We're Number One"..."We're Number One"..."We're Number One" .."USA"..."USA"..."USA"...

It sounds like someone with no wit or sense of humor. We know that Franken obviously has both. Guess he just has to be careful now...or something.

24. What's inaccurate about it? When you school, you teach or educate. Franken
taught him the right way and the wrong way to make a request.

28. I think we're having a fundamental misunderstand over the meaning of schooled
This is how I understand the term in the context it was being used in that article

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=schooled

1. Taught a lesson (the hard way), to lose humiliating
"o shit, that fool got schooled good "

2. Being taught the proper way to preform an action, via extreme ownage and embarrasment. This requires the schooler, who is always of such a high level of skill that the schoolee has no chance of saving his reputation, to utterly dominate and show no remorse. If remorse is shown, it is done in a cool and laid-back way, as in to say "Your not even worth the effort of my pinkie finger", which ironically is just as brutal as an all-out ownage.

3. to get defeated miserably-to lose with humiliation

2. Franken is a smart man, and I think
he will be a fine senator, one we can be proud of. Call it intuition if you like. The Wellstone seat should be his.

Hey, Norm Coleman: get the fuck out of the way, asshole. Nothing personal. Just Get The Fuck Out Of The Way.

4. I don't think it's clear that the heckler knows Franken is a Senator elect.
That could explain the "Hey funnyman" comment.

I still don't know how Al is maintaining his cool, I certainly wouldn't having to deal with asshole Coleman for so long.

After 8 years of Bush-brand politics & Fixed News, would it surprise anyone if Franken were followed "in case" something of note happened that would be worth making the "news"? And this came from politico. :eyes:

15. I met Al Franken
Edited on Thu May-07-09 01:08 PM by Froward69
At he beginning of His run. He was serious and had the attitude there was a time for jokes and running for Senate was not one of them. (I must say I concur)as Coleman is painfully dragging this out. I fully understand Franken not having a seance of humor just now. besides as a part time comic myself it is difficult to be "ON" 24-7.
I Imagine once he is seated in his senate seat. the Jokes and one liners will roll out once again.

all with "this republican tried to tell me..."

She thought he was a "down to earth" person. That's the highest praise a Minnesotan can give. And it's why he was able to win the election.

34. Franken handled it perfectly
The "heckler" was clearly bully him, and knew very well that Franken had run for Senator. Franken didn't want to escalate the situation, especially while in public. Al is going to have to take some lessons in martial arts - I can see a lot of this happening.

Unless, of course, you have Politico's ulterior motive, which is to not treat Franken seriously as a man who just won election to the U.S. Senate.
