Radio personality Shannon Burke accused of shooting wife, dog
Source: Orlando Sentinel

"Burke, 43, faces charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and animal cruelty. He is being held without bail in the Seminole County Jail.

He told deputies he became angry with the pet late Thursday and was waving a firearm that he thought was not loaded, Sheriff's spokeswoman Kim Cannaday said."

And yes...he is a conservative.

From WESH.com...

http://www.wesh.com/news/19341869/detail.html

"Burke is one RealRadio 104.1 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wikipedia describes his show as "mixture of outrageous daily, biker attitude and personality, and right-wing style rants."

51. What pisses me off is the basics: NEVER WAVE A GUN AROUND
that's a simple rule these gun crazies always seem to forget. They get too casual with guns, a gun is a deadly weapon, not a toy to be waved around.

He was not on today. I wondered why.

He was to sponsor a BIG motorcycle ride tomorrow.

WOW. Yes he is a conservative. Bush supporter. But the show can be quite funny - not politically driven.

WOW.

11. Yep...
He has toned down the political talk since Obama was elected, it made the show somewhat tolerable for the afternoon drive. Plus he has an Obama supporter on with him (SBK). I heard SBK on this afternoon and wondered what was up until I saw the preview of the evening news. I agree...WOW.

Bet he is gone from the network. Give SBK a shot at a show.

We used to live in Winter Springs, and I was a huge Phillips fan back then. He'd go one, and have crazy little rants, some wisdom, and most of all- faith in the people who listened to him. But, after they became "Real Radio", many big media changes. I loved Ms B and "free balling Fridays".

But I tell you... NOTHING... but, NOTHING beat 2 guys in the morning (on another FM station) Baxter and Mark.

They were talented and I wish I had a CD of all the crazy and quite clever stuff they put on.

...

Burke: I was, uh, playing with a gun, I didn't know it was loaded, it went off, and I've hit my wife ...

(whispering) Don't call anybody. Don't ...

I was playing around with a gun that I didn't know was loaded, and it went off, and I skimmed the side of my wife's head, and she's bleeding really bad ...

Yeah, she's breathing. She's making a phone call ...

77. I wouldn't trust him with
a plastic Spork either. There are (at least to me) very few intrinsically dangerous things (most of those are pretty flammable and/or corrosive) and lots of dangerous people who really aught to be kept away from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_W._Bush_pretzel_incident|pretzels> , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dick_Cheney_hunting_incident">shotguns and metal tableware.

69. But -- but -- but -- nobody ever waves a gun at anyone else!
All gun owners are responsible at all times! Plus, why shouldn't someone who's already had issues with domestic violence and by extension, alcohol abuse, be allowed to own a firearm? They're not going to hurt anyone! It's their right!

74. The judge ordered him to stay away from his wife. Doesn't sound like an accident from a guy with no
history of violence.

Meanwhile, a bit of irony and an unfortunate choice of words from the transcript of the conversation with the medical dispatcher, as the ambulance arrives to the Burke home.

"OK. Well I want you to make sure if you can that you unlock the front door and turn on the lights outside.

Burke: Yeah, yeah. You got it. I'll go do it right now.

Seminole medical dispatcher: If you have any pets or animals, go ahead and put those away if you can.

Burke: OK."

78. Nice Iron Cross belt buckle, he is sporting in this photo....
The Iron Cross (without the swastika) was a medal, used in the Napoleonic Wars. Adolph Hitler renewed it in 1939 and superimposed with the swastika in the middle. Today, the symbol is often worn by neo-Nazi groups, especially as jewellery. The Iron Cross without the swastika is also frequently used as a hate symbol in the same way. Now, it is banned in Germany.

I'm getting the impression that this guy is going to get away with this. Virtually everyone that I have heard interviewed on my local channels has basically said the same thing...this was "clearly an accident". Wow. And check out some of the comments here...
