Judy Shepard rejects Rep. Foxx's apology
Source: MSNBC

NEW YORK - Judy Shepard doesn't think Rep. Virginia Foxx, R-N.C., was sincere when she apologized for calling the 1998 murder of Shepard's son, Matthew, "a hoax."

"Attacks of lesser consequence have been said about Matt since the beginning... but I never expected it to be called 'a hoax,'" said Shepard Thursday on "The Rachel Maddow Show."

During a debate in the House of Representatives Wednesday, Foxx said that the death of Matthew Shepard shouldn't be used to justify a hate crimes bill because it wasn't a hate crime. Foxx said Shepard was killed during a robbery.

In a statement released the following day, Foxx said her comments didn't convey what she meant to say. "The term 'hoax' was a poor choice of words used in the discussion of the hate crimes bill," Foxx said.

...

Judy Shepard, who was present when Foxx made the remarks, was unconvinced by the clarification. "It's apologizing for semantics but not her sentiment, her insensitivity or her ignorance," she said on MSNBC.

34. It's probably best you use the tag
I'm afraid there are some people who might say what you did and mean it. We would probably be told that these 17 Dinos were "voting their districts" - like that makes it okay.

If a Democrat doesn't stand against bigotry, what does s/he stand for?

I think most Dinos couldn't even name six or seven "core Democratic values". They only have the (D) behind their names because that's the way their district swings.

Republican also defends attacks on Obama, Clinton

Rep. Virginia Foxx says she believes God will judge people for sins of omission as well as commission, so the Banner Elk Republican had a message she couldn't keep to herself.

"You should fear for your country," Foxx told a gathering of members of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce.

The Democratic majority in Congress has become "bolder and bolder" with tax dollars and the rules of the House, she told the business leaders at their annual Washington meeting.

"I am trying to scare you to death," she said.

...

She also defended comments she made to a local radio program, 3WC radio's "Focus on the Foothills," about Democratic Sens. Hillary Clinton of New York and Barack Obama of Illinois. Foxx said the presidential candidates "basically are socialists, he more than she."

"I believe they are socialists, and if you look at their platforms you will see their plan is to take money from part of the population and give it to other people in the population," she said later, referring to their universal health care plans.

"I don't know the dictionary definition of socialism, but most people would see that as socialism."

12. Judy Shepard is really an incredible advocate.
I've always been struck by how articulate and astute she is, despite the fact that her advocacy was essentially thrust upon her by a person tragedy. Which makes you realize how utterly worthless some "professional advocates" can be. Her response to that vile creature from NC really distills the point perfectly.

16. Good for her!
People in this country need to finally learn to be less conciliatory towards ignorance. And less tolerant of it.

And people who preach "tolerance" really aren't tolerant at all. The use of the word tolerance has merely become a politically correct way of covering up intolerance.

that's how many Southerner's apologize. The problem is, you never can tell when they're sincere and when they're not. I doubt Foxx was sincere. She's evil to the core: seeing as she's my next door neighbor district representative, I can speak with some intimate knowledge of her core bigotry.

60. Virginia has reviewed that suckie "apology" since - I am a constituent (sorry to say)
she probably got alot of calls today.

I called the DC office. I am unfortunately a constituent of hers.

Her new apology actually sounds real, unlike this other one.

I did tell her assistant that Ms Foxx ought to think about how'd she like that if it
were her child tortured, bludgeoned and tied to a fence, and the only place on his face
that wasn't blood covered was where his tears trailed?

She would have to do something for victims of hate crimes to win any redemption.

However, the stupid old battle ax is also pro torture.

Premeditated lying in order to dismiss the circumstances of a brutal hate crime is a hate crime in itself coming from an individual who is sworn to legislate and uphold laws that protect the life and liberty of ALL citizens. What a piece of work. She even outdoes Michele Bachmann on this one.
