Methodist Church's highest court clears deal for George W. Bush policy center at SMU

The United Methodist Church's highest court has cleared the way for the George W. Bush policy center at Southern Methodist University, but some critics say they will continue their fight to keep it off campus.

The church's Judicial Council ruled at its spring meeting last week that the lease agreement between SMU and the library complex and affiliated policy institute did not violate any church laws.

Leon Bennett, who helped argue the school's case before the court, said he was optimistic the victory was final.

"We've prevailed at every level as we've moved through the church process," he said.

Critics say the center will promote policies that the church officially opposed, such as the Iraq war, and argue that the lease violated the school's articles of incorporation.

"George W Bush Policy Center" - now that's an oxymoron. What are they going to do in this so-called "policy center?" Play ping pong and choke on pretzels? Or maybe this is another attempt by the motherfucker to, in his words, "replenish the 'ol coffers."

2. What a sad day when the United Methodists would become
aligned with a war criminal. Ironic, given their strong stance against Bush*s war of aggression throughout...

3. What an easy "Center" to build.
A pile of bloody rubble covered in a thick layer of DU would be just about right.

15. If Jesus were here today...
Preaching what he was said to have preached in the Bible the Republicans would be on FOX News calling him a SOCIALIST LIBERAL who will make America unsafe!

...And the moderate Christians would remain silent like always!

More than likely it would be us nasty evil godless Heathens who would speak up on Jesus' behalf...However, the moderate Christians would finally speak up and say Heathens can't speak as they do not understand the Bible! Thus empowering the Bronze Age Christians as always!

Gotta Love American Christians...Confused bunch of people!

16. I wonder if they'll change their mind as more disclosures emerge.
Occasionally I forget that most Americans, and especially those who follow a Protestant religion, are not fully aware of the scope and extent of Bush's criminal operations. However, our new President does not seem to be as unwilling to release details as I thought he would be.

A few more months of this torture and murder and who knows what else, and SMU is going to be really regretting this decision.

18. NOW I know why Mom
converted us at such a "late" age (9) Joking aside, I never knew Methodist's were such hateful/ignorant creatures! Our little church in Avon never exhibited that mindset, but then, that was in the '50's when we were mostly ignorant to ignorance.
