Exec says Coleman donor ordered $100K payments

Sworn statement backs allegation that Kazeminy directed fees to an insurance firm to benefit the Colemans.

By PAUL McENROE and TONY KENNEDY, Star Tribune staff writers

Last update: March 26, 2009 - 11:51 PM

The former finance chief of a Texas company controlled by Nasser Kazeminy, a close friend of former Sen. Norm Coleman, said in a deposition last week that Kazeminy ordered $100,000 in fees be paid to a Minneapolis insurance agency where Coleman's wife was employed.

B.J. Thomas, who was chief financial officer of Deep Marine Technology Inc., said that $75,000 of that sum was paid to Hays Companies even though he saw no evidence of Deep Marine receiving any consulting services from Hays.

Thomas' deposition, taken under oath on March 19 and obtained by the Star Tribune, is the first corroboration from an official at Deep Marine of allegations made by company founder Paul McKim in a lawsuit filed last year against the company.

In the two weeks before the November U.S. Senate election, two lawsuits were filed against Deep Marine -- one by McKim and one by a group of minority shareholders. In them, Kazeminy was accused of funneling payments to Hays to benefit the Colemans, as well as other alleged financial wrongdoing.

2. So now can we somehow insert this into our fight to seat Franken?
Shouldn't Coleman resign since he is a criminal?

'criminals' for the shady stuff they do. But then again, we have a few of our own.

That's why capitalism sucks.

edit: to clarify my last statement. Capitalism only works when people and governments behave honorably. Plain and simple fact is that they don't.

one further edit: But that sure as heck doesn't mean that Coleman shouldn't be prosecuted for this. And it most certainly should disqualify him from any political position of any kind.

Sadly, the same can be said of anarchy. Or socialism. Or just about any other system I can think f.

Al Franken should be sworn in as the Junior Senator from Minnesota today. This farce has gone on long enough.

.............over the last twenty years, things have gotten screwy from my point of view. How do you go in a generation from Humphrey, McCarthy, Wellstone, and Mondale to such fucking creeps as Michelle Bachman and Norm Coleman?????

13. Colemen might not want that new election after all.............
The more stuff comes out, the less it looks like he'll still be asking for a new election.

But seriously, folks, does ANYONE out there still think he really wants that? They want to
stall Franken's installment as Senator from Minnesota as long as they can, and THAT is the
goal, here. They know Coleman isn't returning, they just want to drag out Franken's taking
his place.

17. AbNORMal Coleman
is scum. I'm glad his dirty, sneaky, undercover, financial transactions, are coming to light. He has always struck me as the type to try and get away with nefarious under the table, bullshit, while smiling like a golden haired innocent Sunday School boy. Effing liar, hypocrite, a-hole. God, I hope he gets stuck with the Al's legal bills, and it ruins him.

18. Norm Coleman tried every republican lie & slimy trick to deceive judges in election with Al Franken
Edited on Sat Mar-28-09 03:30 PM by GreenTea
Typical republican bullshit, steal the seat then worry about election fraud and other slime charges and fraudulent misdeeds later...

Just secure that seat for the filthy republicans, so even if Coleman gets convicted the republicans (MN R-Guv) get another slimy republican to take Coleman's place for that SIX YEAR senate seat....

So happy Al Franken will be the next senator from Minnesota. Man, does that piss off a lot of republicans, Anne Coulter & BillO the Clown (O'Reilly) for two ---

Now when will Franken finally be seated in the senate so he can vote for Universal Health Care, the union bill & the budget?

20. Reid should get some balls and just seat Franken.
An End In Sight For The Minnesota Senate Race?

“Give a week to prepare briefs, a day of oral argument, and a few days for a ruling. Then they will probably call for a certification. At that point, perhaps mid-April, he comes to DC,” the source says, adding that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell may try to filibuster Franken’s potential seating until Coleman’s appeals have been exhausted.

If this was the other way around Fox News would be crying like babies, Reid should get some balls and just seat Franken.

21. Last I read Coleman's lead attorney said it was over...
Edited on Sat Mar-28-09 04:54 PM by GreenTea
I got the impression they were not going to appeal...who knows for sure?

Also, Al Franken's attorney made a great move by announcing they were going to sue Coleman for payment of all legal costs & fees of Franken's, if Coleman decides to appeal and loses....which Coleman will undoubtedly lose an appeal.

So if the republicans are indeed just stalling the inevitable, (as I believe they are, to keep the 59th Dem vote (Franken) from voting) than Coleman (and the republicans) will have to pay big bucks to Al Franken....

Let's hope Franken is seated ASAP - like, this MONDAY for instance!...I'm with you, Dem Majority leader Harry Reid needs to have some fucking "balls"!

42% of 78% of eligible voters(the highest in the nation). At least they're involved.
