White House: Cheney almost as popular as Limbaugh
Source: AP

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House says former Vice President Dick Cheney is the second most popular member of the "Republican cabal," behind only talk-show host Rush Limbaugh.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs on Monday brushed off Cheney's criticism of President Barack Obama's new administration. Cheney said Sunday that Obama's decisions are threatening the nation's safety.

...

Gibbs says Obama is keeping the nation safe and dealing with problems George W. Bush's administration did not.

Gibbs says his sarcasm shouldn't mask serious policy differences between Obama and the Bush-Cheney team.

7. Process of association
Associating the slim ball limbaugh and the criminal Cheney with the GOP for the American people.

Cementing that image of what they represent, ie. the last 8 years in everyones psyche

8. Yes. I know why he said what he said
I'd much rather they point to Cheney in prison for his war crimes...if they really want to drive such a point home.

11. Ridicule is a most effective response to somebody like Cheney.
A yesterday's man who would like to think he still matters, but doesn't. I'd rather they jail him too but until then, it's grim fun to know how his powerlessness must gall him.

12. Yes. Because Cheney cries into his pillow at night over what people think & say about him
Edited on Mon Mar-16-09 04:05 PM by Solly Mack
I disagree. Obviously.

Ridicule doesn't touch Cheney at all.

And Cheney isn't powerless - just because he's not in office doesn't make him powerless. A powerless war criminal would be in prison.

14. Cheney has no more power of his office to retaliate against anyone anymore in any tangible way.
Yes, I believe you would disagree until the cows come home. While you're busy holding your breath till you turn blue waiting for Cheney's arrest & trial, I am pleased that the people who hold the actual power now are laughing at his hugely diminished influence, thereby making it safe for others to laugh at him too.

The power of ridicule is not that it hurts someone's feelings. It's in how it gradually saps that person's credibility in the eyes of others. Eventually, even John King will stop taking Cheney's calls.

16. I'm turning blue just waiting for the feel-good phrase "no one is above the law" to become a reality

I have hope for a new day of justice in America. (As if) Snicker

Cheney isn't worried about his credibility in the eyes of others. Those who admire him (or maybe they fear him) won't change how they think regardless of what anyone says. John King (and the rest of the press) is just a tool to Cheney. A means to an end, nothing more.

Yes, ridicule can change how a person is perceived - but that doesn't change the fact that Cheney does not care what anyone thinks about him and never will. Nor will it change what Cheney does or doesn't do. And people will share a laugh at the ridicule of Cheney and cheer it (I enjoy a good jab at his expense)....but Cheney, the war criminal that remains free, gets the last laugh.

You want to hurt Cheney? You really want to strike a blow at his credibility? Really want to make associating with him toxic? Imprison him for his crimes.

"It's true that the current leader of the Republicon Homelanders, Rush Limbaugh, was exceedingly craven & creative in managing to dodge the draft and avoid serving America using the preposteriorous exuse of an 'ass pimple.'

"But I am RICHER (smirk) and I got a Grand Total of 5 freaking military deferments to avoid serving America -- therefore, I am More of a True Republicon Homelander Chickenhawk than he is. Sneer."

4. Well, for true-believing conservatives, Cheney may have...
some advantages over Limbaugh. For one, he's not just advocated torture, but ordered it...

13. This should wake a few people up.
Cheney's so unpopular with the general public that if they see him as one of the main figureheads that should bode well for us.

17. Cheney is only popular among....
... mindless Freepers and the CEO cabals who have looted America. An odd collection of admirers.

But compared to a festering sore like Limbaugh, Cheney almost has an air of respectability.
