Grenade attack on US patrol in Baghdad, 2 casualties
Edited on Mon Jul-28-03 04:52 AM by Kellanved
BAGHDAD, July 28 (Reuters) - A U.S. patrol was attacked with a grenade in broad daylight in central Baghdad on Monday, and two soldiers were badly wounded and possibly killed.

A U.S. officer at the scene told Reuters that two of his men had been badly wounded in the attack but declined to say whether they had died. Iraqi police said the two were dead.
A military spokesman had no official comment.

Soldiers surrounded the Humvee after the attack with rifles at the ready. One soldier was slumped motionless in the back seat of the vehicle and another lay in the road. Neither received any medical attention and they were later driven away in the back of a truck, one covered in blood.

3. They're not terrorists...
they're guerrillas or insurgents (if you are trying to remain relatively objective), and resistance fighters or freedom fighters (if you are sympathetic to their cause).

the overuse and deadening of the meaning of the word "terrorist" is a bad trend, and must be reversed.

And yes, many of them are getting away.

5. If Malaysia invaded US, what would Americans be who shot them?

Guerillas? Insurgents? Resistance Fighters?

Or just plain old Joe SixPack trying to keep his remaining children from becoming "collateral damage?"

21. I am sorry for the loss of our soldiers but I agree with your comments
Our media and our allies continue to refer to Islamics and/or Palestinians fighting against their
occupation as "terrorists" "militant" or "extremists" or "fundamentalists" Just as likely are they to refer to
occupiers as "settlers" "citizens" "liberators" "soldiers" or "military."

Just one time I would like to hear something about the "American terrorists" or "American militants"
or "Israeli terrorists" or "Israeli occupiers." It's as thought there are no Christian or Jewish militants or
terrorists or extremists or invaders. The language that we purposely use is another form of the media
brainwashing that takes place daily in this country.

We use language and photos in ways that we decry others not to use.
And then we ask "Why do they hate us?"

4. they drop a grenade from a bridge....
...it takes a full second for the grenade to hit the troops.... it takes a fraction of a second for the person who dropped it to be out of sight. it really turns around the death ratio.... when we went in there we were killing 500-1000 iraqis for every us dead.... this really encourages resistance when they can get away with it.... but no they are not terrorists... they are attacking military targets.

7. That's what puts us in a comparatively worse position.
You can't really battle this sort of thing. You can't see it coming. And when it does come, by the time it's over, it's often gone and no one knows what happened.

You can't disarm a society the size of Iraq.

9. Not to be redundant but
These Iraqis are the furthest thing away from terrorists. These CITIZENS are doing the same thing Americans would be doing if we were illegally invaded and waged war upon by another country for the theft and control our GNP.

22. What do you suppose we should call ourselves since we dropped bombs
on the heads of thousands of Iraqis from a distance and launched missiles from out of
harm's way? some would even call us cowardly.

14. Getting away
The attackers get away many times, but several hundred Iraqis, many of them civilians, have been killed by U.S. troops "post war", by far outnumbering the numbers of killed soldier. But this does not seem to be of importance. Just one excample, from a recent article on Wolfowitz:
"The reports of deaths are terrible. Any American death is a terrible thing," Wolfowitz said.

You better imagine the Iraqis who loose their kin in these attacks by the U.S. (now that Saddam is gone). Will they let get away "any of these thugs" for "their murderous actions"?

Don't get me wrong, I don't condone any killing, but you better start thinking that NOT ALL of these attacks are by "murderous thugs".

33. If America were under foreign occupation
American suicide bombers would be hailed as patriots and their names would be carved on Stone Mountain.

It is all a matter of perspective!

43. Perhaps you should look
at your own government. Who has Iraq terrorized?

'Tis true Saddam Hussein paid suicide bombers to bomb Irsael. If correct then why is U.S. being dragged into another's heat score?

instead of the pics of the dead Husseins. It doesn't matter a whit to me whether those Husseins are dead or alive, but it DOES matter to me that American soldiers are going through this hell with my tax dollars, all so that the Bush cartel can get rich. Americans need to see this, blood and all.

41. I know, I know JoshCryer
The feeling is so overwhelming.
Your brother is there?
I have a nephew being sent over.
My brother was there the first GW Bushco war
and I felt so scared and helplessly enraged.
I could not sleep at night worrying for his safety.
I can't imagine how mothers, fathers and all
people with loved one there are feeling as this
violence escalates.
I don't think all the protesting in the world is going
to bring them home though.

My thoughts are that we need to mobilize a movement
to prevent future enlistments and educate youngsters
on how to file C.O. status BEFORE the draft darkens our doors again.
And it will, the neocons fully intend to position military
all over the planet to protect their corporate interests and control.
We need to DEMAND equal time with the recruiters visiting schools.
Set up a speaker series with veterans from the Vietnam and Gulf Wars.
I keep saying it over and over, but the truth is-
The way to stop the BFEE quite simply is in this equasion:
No soldiers=No Empire.

BHN

since 01 may. Thats 89 days by my fifth grade math, seems the numbers are ramping up to more than one a day and the reports are buried now. Over the weekend what had been front page news on our local rag was buried inside.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- As U.S. troops continued forays into Saddam Hussein's ancestral home of Tikrit, eyewitnesses said two American soldiers died and a third was wounded in an opposition grenade attack Monday in central Baghdad.

U.S. military officials had no comment on the casualties, but said they were investigating the report. Five American soldiers died during weekend attacks.
