GOP chairman says he leads party, not Rush Limbaugh
Source: CNN

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Republican Party Chairman Michael Steele is taking issue with the notion that Rush Limbaugh is the de facto leader of the GOP, calling the conservative radio talk show host an entertainer whose comments can be ugly.

Steele, chairman of the Republican National Committee, said in an interview with CNN that he, rather than Limbaugh, is "the de facto leader of the Republican Party."

And Steele described Limbaugh as a performer.

"Rush Limbaugh is an entertainer. Rush Limbaugh's whole thing is entertainment," Steele said. "Yes, it is incendiary. Yes, it is ugly."

13. Entertainment? This guy can't even tell a joke without offending 99% of the universe.
Rush Limbaugh's arc reminds me of the story of Cain and Abel. Although he isn't at that level yet, one cannot escape the feeling that he is leading people the wrong way. Here's the warning that Cain received:

Then the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you furious? And why are you downcast? If you do right, won't you be accepted? But if you do not do right, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is for you, but you must master it.

Limbaugh and talk radio was warned before following the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing. They sloughed off the idea. I see them leading people in the wrong direction in a serious way. They've seen what extreme thinking can accomplish (OKC and 9/11). Will they take that path now? If not, one thing is certain, America will be harmed. Is that what they want? Or worse?

17. Steele needs to realize
He is not really "da man" as Bachmann said, he is in place only so republicans can try and court the black vote, and it won't work. Now Rush is a joke, but he wants to be "da man"! And we can't forget Palin, she wants the job also, but not as "da man", but "da woman"! One other figure we need to toss into the mix is Newt. While I can't stan him, he is the only one that seems to have plans for a "new" party, not the same old crap that they have had in the party since back in the 1980's.

This "scenario" is great for the dems because I see a "civil war" brewing in the republican party, and that will be good for democrats come 2010, and then again in 2012!

I don't see how Newt can bring anything new to the game--he wants to take out another contract on america because the last one worked so damb well for the country. Not.

No, he's as much of an obstructionist as the rest of that pitiful bag of mediocrity.

39. and that is the whole irony about this
there is this one vein in that party which wants to include blacks and other minorities. They elected Steele to put a 'get over' face on their designs. Obama is black--so, hey!!! Let's elect a black to head our party--it's the same philosophy which prompted them to pick palin over other, more qualified and intelligent female pols in their party because they were convinced that white women were so incensed over Hillary not getting the nomination that they would vote for anything sporting ovaries and oozing estrogen over a black man.

The strategy worked so well in August that they figured they'd try it again in January when they elected Steele.

You are right. Rush has been their leader all this time--and half of them can't wait to get their sheets out of mothballs and set some wood on fire--and if they could plant that cross and light it in Steele's office waiting area, they would.

on CNN's "D.L. Hughley Breaks the News," which aired this weekend...(and) was taped before Limbaugh's appearance before the Conservative Political Action Conference...

Limbaugh brought a cheering crowd to its feet several times...He used his self-described "first national address," which ran more than an hour longer than his allotted 20 minutes...

If entertainment and "real" politics shouldn't mix, Steely, what are you doing hanging out with a D.L. Hughley? And how much authority do you really have if you couldn't stop Rush from turning 20 minutes into a "national address?"
