Iran tests its first nuclear power plant
Source: CNN

BUSHEHR, Iran (CNN) -- Iran tested its first nuclear power plant Wednesday, a stride that prompted one Iranian technician to declare it was "independence day" for the Islamic republic.

Tests were carried out at the Bushehr nuclear power plant using "dummy" fuel rods, loaded with lead in place of enriched uranium to simulate nuclear fuel.

In a news release distributed to reporters at the scene, officials said the test measured the "pressure, temperature and flow rate" of the facility to make sure they were at appropriate levels.

Officials said the next test will use enriched uranium, but it's not clear when the test will be held or when the facility will be fully operational.

1. OH NOES!
Let's have a long argument about how they need to be bombed to keep them from having electricity!

2. They didn't have electricity before this?
You really believe the leadership when they claim that they are not interested in developing nuclear weaponry?

4. I do, actually
After all, we can somehow trust so many other nations with nuclear power plants... It must be the "Muslim" thing...

Though if I'm wrong, I couldn't exactly blame them, what with there being two nuclear powers constantly threatening to attack Iran...

5. Of coarse they are interested in developing nuclear weaponry - that doesn't mean they are doing it
.
.
.

Israel has nukes,

USA has nukes right off Iran's coast in subs and probably on ships also

Russia has nukes

China has nukes

India has nukes

Pakistan has nukes

and so on

SO

Iran may be feeling a wee bit insecure with all these nukes around them

and sitting on top of one of the World's largest oil and gas reserves . .

and......

didn't one of their neighbors with lots of oil just get invaded and occupied by the USA and it's "coalition"??

damm straight they are interested in having their own nukes, and for good reason

STILL DOESN'T MEAN THEY ARE DOING IT!!!

To quote our PM Jean Chretien when the Bush Administration was trying to convince us to participate in the invasion and slaughter in Iraq over imaginary WMD's

"Show me the proof, - a proof is a proof is a proof - I don't see any proof"

Chretien was correct - there was no proof, and STILL no WMD's 7 years later

8. Most EVERY nation in the world is interested in developing Nuclear Weapons because they
are SCARED TO DEATH as to what the USA and/or Israel may do (conquer) next.

Perhaps President Obama can re-assure a few of these nations to stand down, but not in the immediate future.

3. They actually signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty
Unlike India and Israel.

It's so easy to paint them dirty foreigners with a broad brush, isn't it.

Perhaps if the U.S. hadn't failed after installing a corrupt dictator called "The Shah of Iran", who quickly started spending all of the Oil revenues by living opulent and lavish lifestyles for his entire entourage, we would not be in this mess.

First of all, declaring and economic embargo on one of the countries that provides the resource that your society has nearly total dependance on is not good policy. Although I believe that Nuclear power will never be able to be produced in 100% safety, simply because the costs of one accident are too great to imagine, I do believe that Iran, as a sovereign country needs to be able to chart it's own destiny.

We know very little about their society other than that we are told by the Propogandists that desire yet another Cold Warrior to spend money against. This one has Oil too, so therefore they really want to squash this upstart.

If I were an Iranian leader that made real decisions, I would start a course of reduction of dependence on the use of Oil myself.

America is talking big on Nuclear power these days if you have not noticed. Unfortunately, they don't tell you that if Nuclear were to be developed on the scale that they see necessary, the entire world supply of Uranium would be consumed in about 100 years.

You cannot oversimplify the Iran situation without looking at the dirty hands Uncle Sam has when dealing with them over the past 70 years.
