FEC Moves to Regulate Groups Opposing Bush
Edited on Fri Feb-20-04 01:08 PM by Oreegone
They are trying to prepare for the onslaught of the Dean Grassroots Organization...and Destroy MoveON........ this is even too much for some of their own to agree with.

They don't even pretend to play by the rules....what rules...hey they make their own as they go along, nobody has complained much so far.

snip
Republican National Committee Chairman Ed Gillespie, in contrast, said the ruling will put out of business "groups like America Coming Together , the Media Fund, Partnership for America's Families and the MoveOn.org Voter Fund." All are pro-Democratic groups organized under Section 527 of the tax code.

snip
On philosophical, not partisan, grounds, two of the Republican commissioners -- Chairman Bradley A. Smith and David M. Mason -- voted against regulation of the Democratic groups, rejecting pressure from the RNC. "If Republicans think they can win by silencing their opponents, they are wrong," said Smith, and "they are going to deserve to lose."

4. Excuse my language
But what are you so fucking scared of assface Ed? That the american public will finally hear the truth about your parties fucked up political arm? Are you afraid we might hear about the real reasons for the deficits and the real reasons of 9-11? Are you afraid that your corporate friends in the media might try to play fair this year and give a balanced portrayal of the candidates instead of playing favorites with king george?

You can scream that the democrats are playing politics all you want but we learned it from you and turn about is fair play. I know you are shitting your pants on a daily basis that the truth about your beloved administration is going to be exposed but if you don't want to play by the rules, then don't expect others to do the same.

Your time has come and the truth about your ugliness will be exposed.

End of rant.

9. Thanks for
not being offended by the language. My "potty mouth" has become sooooo bad over the past 3 years. I am getting to the point that I can't say a republicans name without an expletive before it!

I always tell my repug brother that bush is bad for society because he makes people use bad words!

6. i thought...
I couldnt get the link to work but I thought that the gist was that the 527 advocacy ads had to be funded with hard money.

this wouldnt affect the DFA because it is almost all hard money

a lot of moveon is hard money i think but i know they have some grants from soros etc... i suppose there would be a way to isolate that

too damn bad they didnt rule this way before the toricelli, gephart PAC smeared Dean all over Iowa with their big corporate soft money donations. convenient. those would have been off limits.

10. Maybe McCain/Feingold was not so good after all???
The only way to fix the campaign finance system is to
make it PUBLICLY FUNDED! This is the ONLY way.
