WASHINGTON – Democrats pushed a huge, $787 billion stimulus bill through the House and toward final approval on Friday, launching a costly attack on the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression and handing President Barack Obama a major victory early in his term. The House vote was 246-183, with Republicans unanimous in opposition to the bill, which includes tax cuts and an estimated $500 billion in federal spending.

Senate leaders set a confirming vote for several hours later, and in a show of urgency, the White House dispatched a government plane to Ohio to fly back a senator who was home for his mother's Saturday morning funeral.

Supporters said the bill would save or create 3.5 million jobs. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer conceded there was no guarantee, but he said that "millions and millions and millions of people will be helped, as they have lost their jobs and can't put food on the table of their families."

1. House Dems pass stimulus despite GOP opposition
Despite GOP opposition??? Who cares? This is as it should be. Did the GOP pass things "despite Dem opposition" for the last 8 years? Or did they just win?

Why are the beaten, irrelevant Repugs mentioned in the news every 5 seconds?

5. We don't need the Republicans to govern
It is time to utterly crush the Republican party.

We need to rid our country of this blight called the Republican Party once and for all. No more Mr. Nice Guy. Give them the same treatment that they have been giving us for the last eight years.

6. If only
and this may be whats needed but to put the foot on the proverbial neck of the republican party and crush the life right out of it. It seems like they are doing the favor for us.. but I dont want to take any chances.

7. Oh, absolutely
because a one-party state is the true embodiment of a free, open, pluralistic, democratic society.

{Where do they find these people?)

8. In 25 years, there will be no Republican Party
The Republicans may even have trouble putting up a viable candidate in 2012.

This does not mean we would be left with a one party system. It only means that the select elite controlling the Republican Party will be swept aside, and (hopefully) a centrist physically conservative group will reform under a new name. The big business / religious fundamentals who have hijacked the votes of the people on the right side of the isle have struck a path to disaster from which they will never recover. However, the political system in this country will recover and two party elections will continue.

Other parties have come and gone, but the result was not a one party system.

Federalist Party
Whig Party
Populist Party

9. And there will be posters here calling for it's abolition, too.

"a centrist physically (sic) conservative group will reform under a new name"

And there will be posters here calling for its abolition, too.

I despair, I really do. Politics in this country is no longer just about competing ideas for where we, as a nation, should go, but has taken on all of the mentality and imagery of war. "We must crush them," "We should keep our boot on their throat," etc. And this is coming from OUR side.

10. If they start illegal wars and allow big business to rape the planet for profit
Those political parties should be abolished.

11. what do you call a bill...
...that Democrats pass without Republic support, and the president signs?

A Law.

We'll live without their so-called "support" (read, write a bill like we would if we were in the majority) quite well, thank you.
