US accuses 'biased' Arab news

Arabic-language news networks are inciting violence against US troops in Iraq, according to US Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz.

In an interview with Fox News on Sunday, Mr Wolfowitz said stations like al-Jazeera and al-Arabiya incited hatred and violence by "slanting news incredibly" about events in Iraq.

Both stations have rejected allegations of bias, saying Mr Wolfowitz has misrepresented their output.

Editor-in-chief Salah Negm said al-Arabiya's coverage "reflects the truth even if that angered some people".

Mr Wolfowitz's comments came as al-Jazeera said US troops had arrested one of its journalists in northern Iraq.

3. Irony Is Lost On These People
He says this on FOX NEWS. Obviously a pillar of impartiality and integrity.

I almost passed out after seeing Wolfowitz saying that. This is why I have to block Faux News from my TV.

12. Our "unbiased" media uses language such as Islamic "militants"
"Islamic terrorists" (why not Christian militants or Christian terrorists?)
"Israeli settlers" (why not "Israeli occupiers" or "Israeli terrorists?")
Seldom is are words Arab, Palestinian, or Islamic used in our media without being followed by
the words "terrorists" or "militants."

Wolf Blitzer is one of the worst offenders of this. Don't take my word for it...check it out for
your selves. If anyone of you can hear one time that "Christian terrorist" or "Jewish terrorist"
or "Israeli terrorist" or "American militants" is used, please post it here.

5. Um I'm no expert
but wouldn't Arab news agencies be partial to Arab problems, just as U.S. "reporters" are partial to U.S. problems? JUST HOW FRIGGIN' STUPID DO THESE JACKASSES THINK WE ARE? OK OK I'm done with my mini rant now. Thank you for your understanding.

4. What? Didn't the Arab news services get Karl's memo?
You know, the same way that said this preemptive attack was not about an imperialistic search for oil?

9. Oh, ok.
Now I understand their "justification" for BOMBING Al Jazeera's office in Baghdad and killing two of their reporters.

If you don't like having the truth told, you just blow them up!! Why didn't we think of this before.

Want to parade around a couple of corpses of the former rulers of Iraq???? NO PROBLEM...just drag em around in front of U.S. TV cameras.

And Wolfowitz was REALLY saying all this on Faux?????

The american public.....WTF is wrong with them?

10. Can someone explain to me...
how these people can make outrageous statements like that, and not be zapped with a cosmic lightening bolt? Not only do they have absolutely no sense of irony, but they insult our intelligence by saying things like this with a straight face.

I know the average American isn't as politically aware as most DU'ers, but is he seriously suggesting that Arab news sources should contact Karl Rove for what is permissible to say?

How did such abysmally stupid people ever gain power?

11. Not stupid, just amazingly arrogant
When you control the media, the voting machines and have stolen control of the most powerful country in the world, I guess you lose all perspective and EXPECT to control the whole world. They killed Katherine Graham (IMO)and Paul Wellstone when they were inconvenient and wonder why everyone isn't afraid or doesn't go along with their FAUX stories. After all they successfully bought Blair! They don't get it at all how the rest of the world knows that the emporer has no clothes.

13. I guess the "genius" is surprised by this?
Edited on Sun Jul-27-03 08:53 PM by gulliver
So Wolfowitz is surprised that Arab TV would be a problem. Normally I would say that I can't believe that. But after today's feeble performances by him on the Sunday talk shows, I'm starting to realize what a limited guy he really is. He has Richard Perle's ability to be completely certain of the reasons he is certain about his own reasoning.

Like Perle, Wolfowitz enthusiastically endorses his own beliefs and deludes others into agreement. Like Cheney, Wolfowitz has mastered the art of sounding reasonable and intellectually disciplined. But what is increasingly apparent to me is that it's all a charade. These fellows are playing out of an old, unimiginative 1980's playbook. The world view they think is so cutting edge is in fact comically obsolete.

"For goodness sake," we almost hear Wolfowitz saying, "how could these Arab TV stations say things that aren't true?"
