Man discovers secret US files on mp3 player
8:15PM Monday Jan 26, 2009

In a story that sounds like the start of a Hollywood blockbuster, a New Zealand man got the surprise of a lifetime when he plugged in his MP3 player and found confidential United States military files.

Chris Ogle, 29, from Whangarei, bought the player from an Oklahoma thrift shop for $18, and found the files when he hooked it up to his computer, One News reported tonight.

The 60 files on the player contained the names and personal details of American soldiers, including ones who served in Afghanistan and Iraq.

There was also information about equipment deployed to bases and a mission briefing.

1. In Bush's America
he would have be rendered (extraordinarily) to some black camp in Kazakhstan. I've higher hopes now, but am still curious to see how this turns out.

And those darn Cubs of yours as well. (At least they deserve it for almost getting to the World Series every other year for my whole lifetime.)

11. I bought a USB thumbnail, used, from e-bay.
I actually bought it for the outside skin, though I got more skin than I expected. For months, I never used the drive. Even forgot about buying it, but when I needed to do a quick transfer I grabbed it off the shelf and found it had three jpgs of a teenage girl in her bathroom. She had on her undies and bra, but had pushed the undies down low enough to photograph herself to check out how her stomach looked in various angles. There was nothing exposed that you couldn't see worse on a public beach.

For all I know, it was her boyfriend who sold the UBS with her photos on it, to be malicious.

15. New Zealand man gives military files to American Embassy
WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — U.S. officials took possession Wednesday of an MP3 player that a New Zealand man found held 60 U.S. military files, including names and telephone numbers of American soldiers, the man said ...

Details of equipment deployed to bases in Afghanistan, including the main U.S. base of Bagram, and a mission briefing were also found in files, most of them dated 2005. Some of the files included a warning that the release of the contents was "prohibited by federal law" ...

Two U.S. Embassy staff from the capital, Wellington, visited Ogle at his home Wednesday and took possession of the MP3 player, exchanging it for a new one.

"That was cool. It was a pretty serious upgrade," Ogle said, laughing ...
