1. Senate Republicans Delay Vote on Holder Nomination (Update1)

Jan. 21 (Bloomberg) -- Senate Republicans forced the Judiciary Committee to delay a vote on Eric Holder, President Barack Obama’s choice to be attorney general.

They said the nominee has failed to answer all their questions. Today’s move postpones a confirmation vote by the full Democratic-controlled Senate for one week.

Republican lawmakers said they remain concerned over Holder’s role in the 2001 pardon of fugitive financier Marc Rich as well as the nominee’s views on the possible prosecution of intelligence agents who used harsh tactics to question suspected terrorists.

Senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, the committee’s ranking Republican, said Holder’s confirmation probably isn’t in jeopardy. He said he wants more time to learn “what Mr. Holder is going to do as attorney general.”

My belief is that Obama has already compromised his own integrity (and thus that of millions of Americans) in the mistaken belief that he could somehow bargain for some sort of non-partisan cooperation from certain members of Congress. A quid pro quo turned quid pro no.

I would that he not shut out the voices of his opponents, but that he likewise not withhold from taking certain actions that might appear to be partisan (ie, vigorously encourage pursuit of criminal charges against the prior administration)

He's been President 1 day. If he actively sought the pursuit of criminal charges, he would never have made it to President 1 day. I'm not sure of what country, or government you think we have. If...Obama should appoint a Special Prosecutor, or If people pressure their own representatives to have hearings, committees, etc., then maybe, maybe more will see the light of day, and some 'bad apples' will fall on their swords. I'm hoping that whistle-blowers come out en-masse. That would maybe help the public to get behind this..if of course they even hear of it by the media. Nothing, absolutely nothing will 'change' if people expect Obama to do everything they want, the way they want, with zero action being taken to force their own representatives to do the right thing. It's absurd.
