Bush Talks To Palestinian Leaders
Source: Sky News

Bush spoke with the Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, the White House said.

They "discussed their efforts for a sustainable ceasefire. They agreed for any ceasefire to be effective, it must be respected particularly by Hamas," White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe said.

The US has been pushing to a "lasting" rather than an immediate ceasefire to end a four-day bombardment of the Gaza Strip.

Israel says it is prepared to work on increasing aid flow into Gaza but appears to be pulling back from plans for a 48-hour ceasefire.
