Shoe-Thrower Appears In Court
Source: SkyNews

The Iraqi journalist who threw shoes at George Bush has appeared in court, his television station says.

An investigative judge will review the evidence in the case and decide whether Muntadhar al Zeidi should stand trial.

Iraq's interior ministry has denied reports that the journalist suffered a severe beating after being arrested.

"The rumours about Zeidi being injured or being hurt are baseless," ministry spokesman Major General Abdul-Karim Khalaf said.

I don't know if any credible witnesses saw this guy's condition while in court...there is a pic at the site, but I don't know when it was taken.

4. That he is regarded as a hero only reveals how much damage Bush has done.
Bush wouldn't last five minutes on the streets of Baghdad or any other Middle East city without extensive protection. The United States has not been popular in the Middle East for a number of years mostly because of our often unbalanced support of Israel. However, Bush has greatly magnified their hatred of our nation with his destruction of Iraq.

6. At least the authorities are going to the trouble of saying he's uninjured--but I don't ...
...particularly believe these paid liars. Until the International Red Cross or other reputable organization can examine him, we won't know his condition. Will he be permitted to be present when the evidence is heard? Will there be a public arraignment?

I was just thinking about what life was like when I tended to believe officials and what they said about people who were arrested. How long ago was I that naive?

7. update, today's news
BAGHDAD – The Iraqi journalist who threw his shoes at President George W. Bush appeared before a judge Wednesday but in his jail cell, his brother said, alleging the reporter must have been too seriously injured to appear in a courtroom.

The family of Muntadhar al-Zeidi went to the Central Criminal Court expecting to attend a hearing, said his brother, Dhargham. He added they were told the investigative judge went to see him in jail and that they should return in eight days.

8. That means he is injured - if he weren't, they would have made
his appearance public and allowed photographs to disprove the injuries claim.

They have learned too much from GWB about lying

9. not appearing in public--or to family--"come back in 8 days"
Yep, I agree. (Of course, they knew a lot about brutality and lying under Saddam Hussein, too. George W. Bush is more of the same. Maybe worse. Hard to say. Similar, anyway.)

10. BBC link says judge visited him in prison (more...)
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/7788096.stm
Muntadar al-Zaidi had been expected to attend a court hearing, but officials told his family that the judge had visited him in his prison cell.

His brother Dargham, quoted by the Associated Press, alleged that he must have been severely beaten and officials feared his appearance could trigger public anger.

Another brother, Uday, said Mr Zaidi was being hidden away somewhere inside the heavily fortified Green Zone. "We waited until 10 in the morning but Muntadar did not show up," he told al-Jazeera TV.

"Upon inquiring as to his whereabouts, we were told that the interrogating judge had gone to see him, something that contradicts the measures followed in all international laws in general."

12. If the shoe incident went over the boy king's head, so to speak, then they should
let Zeidi go.

White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said on Tuesday that Mr Bush had no hard feelings about the incident.
