Bomb goes off at Oregon bank - 4 hours ago
Source: Oregon Live

WOODBURN -- A bomb exploded at a West Coast Bank branch in Woodburn Friday, killing at least one person, and injuring at least two others.

The bomb detonated late afternoon around 5:45 p.m. at the bank in the 2500 block of Newberg Highway.

A Marion County deputy medical examiner said he was en route to the scene, saying that he was told of at least one fatality. He added that police were concerned about a secondary device in the area.

The bank had been evacuated before the bomb detonated, according to West Coast Bank chief executive Robert Sznewajs. The branch has been there for at least 10 years, he said.

He said two employees sustained some injuries, but not life-threatening. But the blast caused serious injuries to an unspecified number of officers, according to an Oregon State Police release. The ATF said it knew of one bomb technician who had been injured.

This happened almost four hours ago, haven't seen jack squat about it on CNN, MSNBC or Faux websites.

You would think this would be major news.

1. Why would they report this? Does it relate to holiday cheer? Was Britney Spears at the bank?
Didn't think so...

34. It means that if it doesn't fit the corporate media's script of what...
we're supposed to be told, then we're not going to hear about it.

Right now, we're supposed to be focused on Blagojevich's haircut, Kate Walsh's divorce, and going out and having a happy holiday.

I also think there's something to Orrex's response downthread. Can't have anything spoiling Bush's last great remaining legacy of preventing another terrorist attack on U.S. soil since his first epic failure. :eyes:

49. Whatever, had they lead with this you'd be saying "All they report is violence"
It's a bombing at a bank, that's TV "Eyewitness news" gold. If it wasn't covered there's a good reason such as having trouble confirming it or a fuck up...etc. Cause they're covering it now.

2. I wonder why they're sitting on it...
Perhaps because it's not a major city? But that doesn't normally stop them.

And how dreadful...

What was the motivation?

Nothing but shock and questions...

I work in Portland and live in Salem, was on I-5 just north of Woodburn when this was being cleaned up. Massive traffic jam due to all roads out and into Woodburn being shut down, and a couple accidents from the dumbass rubberneckers on the freeway.

:sarcasm:

I wouldn't expect the ELF unless it was well-known that West Coast Bank was involved in environmental depradations. Those guys would rather get the publicity from blowing up a BofA or Wells Fargo.

My guess: either an ex-employee or mortgage holder at the bank who had lost their home and was convinced the bank was at fault.

(Actually, in the latter case, you may be seeing more such incidents in the next few years... :-( )

Ta da!

Do CNN, NBC...etc have woodburn bureaus? You realize that someone has to actually INFORM major networks of something like this before they can cover it right? Bank bombing? HELLOOO pathetic, hack news directors at all major networks would be creaming themselves at a story like this... it isn't part of some vast conspiracy.

Fuck.

28. Sure.
The problem is I stumbled on it on another forum roughly two hours after it happened. Multiple local sources. Two hours later, still nothing on MSM, Drudge or whatever, so I posted this.

They locked down/evacuated neighborhoods, shut down that part of the city where the banks were. You can't tell me that CNN et al. didn't have this on their feed. If there were muslims or mexicans involved (who knows who is involved), like maybe a church, synagogue, tomato factory or whatever, it would've been freaking red-light 24/7 coverage.

"He said the Wells Fargo evacuated at 1:30 p.m. and he saw people leaving the bank from his balcony."

We'll see how it plays out. Probably about as well as the cyanide fella in Texas a couple years back except this time there's injuries and a death involved.

There was an earlier bomb threat called into a Wells Fargo branch; they searched, and didn't find anything there. Then there was a threat about the West Coast Bank branch; they did find this bomb there.

52. A remarkably crazy tale. Someone called in a bomb threat earlier to a different bank 150 feet away?
The cops examined a different package and left, then someone found something in a bush later and called them back? Then they brought it inside???

There's so many twists to this. I hope the survivors make it. What a horrible thing to go through, having a bomb go off in your face. I hope they catch whoever did it, and fast!!

In the movies, it's a common ruse to create a distraction away from the scene of the intended crime. "The movies" is hardly a credible source, though.

I feel very sad for those harmed by this crime. My best wishes to all of them.
