Costa Rican police uncover Malta-US African migrant route
by DAVID LINDSAY

African migrants let out of detention in Malta have left the country and have ended up as far away as South America in an attempt to illegally gain entry to the United States, an investigation carried out by the Costa Rican immigration police has revealed.

Costa Rican authorities have uncovered what they say is a network trafficking African migrants from Europe to the United States, using Latin America as a bridge.

As a result of the investigation, the Costa Rican authorities this year deported 25 Eritreans, four of whom were apprehended just two weeks ago while posing as tourists near the Costa Rican-Nicaraguan border.

Investigations carried out by the Costa Rican authorities, a Costa Rican police statement said this week, have identified a route by which Africans leave from Malta, travel to Venezuela and make their way overland through Panama, Costa Rica, the rest of Central America and Mexico – from where they attempt to move enter the United States.

Another route identified by the Costa Rican police sees African migrants illegally obtaining travel papers in Italy, travelling on to Spain and then to Costa Rica, Mexico and finally their intended destination – the United States, after facing the daunting and dicey US-Mexico border.

1. My credibility meter is on alert.. I can't make a case for my doubt, but it's there.
If those people who want to make money for builing a border can't generate enough fear amd hate for 'Mexicans' coming across the border, they may be pumping more air in.

Let's hear it from the U.S., not just Costa Rican authorities and Malta.

CR and Malta may be donating one last act as coalition partners for this administration.

Or someone could be riling up the hate against Obama.

I stay on alert. This administration is all about lies, forgeries, thefts of all kinds, especially trust.

3. i don't understand your post
malta is having some rough times w. illegal immigration from africa because of their location

as for costa rica, why would they invent a story like this?

the story has nothing to do w. "riling up hate against obama," obama is a legal natural born usa citizen, not an illegal immigrant from africa, europe, or anywhere else

so...call me thick...but i haven't had my coffee yet...what's your point????

the bush administration is all about lies, of course, but both malta and costa rica are independent nations w. their own opinion of things, they may be quiet about it, but i doubt they're favorably inclined toward herr bush

4. My point is this - if this hasn't been released in the U.S., but will be with all

kinds of hype that renews the emphasis of building the mex/us border which is a money maker for someone, which as we know, is usually a friend of the Bush family or the RNC. The way controversial issues like this get off the ground is when a campaign is conducted - a campaign focused on cheerleaders who have hate generation at its core. What could be better for that effort than combined hate of 'Mexicans' AND Africans (read Moslems)? Why Malta, why Costa Rica? Perhaps Malta is a victim, perhaps Costa Rica has discovered something. We know that Costa Rica is a friendly host to CIA operations. What if we appealed to them as active coalition partners to help certain benefactors get rich and rile up the hate? If there is a trail well travelled, we should able to prove it. Knowing what this administration gets other countries to do - there might only be those 'tourists' who have done this.

In other words - why believe anything that relates in any way to opportunities for friends of this administration?

We'll see where this goes - from a small newspaper in Malta to the NYT OR the Washington Times or nowwhere.

2. Just a few facts:
Traveling overland through Panama would be a feat. There are still no roads that run all the way through mountainous jungle in the southern part of the country. People in Malta would probably not know this.

The mention of "Venezuela" is meant to put the right-wingers on alert.

The U.S. ambassador to Malta is a Republican airhead from Oregon named Molly Bordonaro, who ran for Congress with a background consisting solely of working for Newt Gingrich's office.
