One U.S. Soldier Killed, Two Wounded in Baghdad
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - One soldier was killed and two were wounded when their convoy was attacked with small arms, rocket-propelled grenades and possibly an improvised explosive device, the U.S. military said on Saturday.

The attack occurred on Highway 10 near Abu Ghuraib on Saturday afternoon. The soldiers were with an engineer unit attached to the 3rd Infantry Division, U.S. Central Command said in a statement.

Two soldiers were evacuated to the 28th Combat Support Hospital for emergency treatment where one subsequently died and the other is in stable condition, the statement said.

1. The most telling paragraph:
"They used to just attack us, mostly at night. But now they are attacking us during the day with AK-47s and RPGs (rocket- propelled grenades), at any American soldiers they can find," Maxwell said, eyes alert under the baking sun.

Bring our troops home now!!!

"Four U.S. Soldiers killed During Deadly Day in Iraq."

Apparently we aren't the only ones having trouble keeping all these deaths straight.

11. It may just that the deaths of Uday and Qusay
were the indicator that the Iraqi factions have sorted themselves out now, so they betrayed the old leadership, and will collect the reward, take a little break, and then step up the guerilla stuff, since they're finished with our services now. They've been using this time since our "victory" to realign their internal stuff. The fact that these two guys were cornered by themselves indicates that they are ready to take their country back from us now.

28. Mercator's laughing, everybody! Hardy har, LOL
Everything's funny when you ain't running a Humvee on the Balad-Ramadi road, yes?

Let's ask our friends in the 4th Infantry Division who were killed this morning how funny the pathertic folding of the Iraqi army was. mercator's laughing out loud about it! Boo-Yah, says mercator, no doubt safely ensconced somewhere. Let's ask our friends in the 101st Airborne - let's start with the two killed on Monday in Tel Afar, and the three killed Thursday entering Qaiyara. I'm sure they'd really appreciate how funny mercator finds the collapse of the Iraqi armed forces. Hardy har, friends, says mercator. He's teachin, y'all!

Oh, but the evil "libruls" think that killing the Hussein bro's is bad! They don't see the value in it! Mercator will draw a neat-o map for you silly "libruls," and all yer frettin'.

Shitbird.

opinion, had an article yesterday(informationclearinghouse.com).....where that very thing is predicted. The majority Shia are organizing and preparing for a stepped up Guerrilla resistance, while the US concentrates on former Baathists.

It sounds like out of the frying pan and into the fire.

14. How many talking head chicken-hawks
have been on Faux/msnbc/cnn telling us how the reistance would stop now that the sons were assassinated ?

I dont think it mattered, if true(still skeptical) but it surely insulted the hell out of the Iraqi people, the way it was done and propagandized. Despite crippling sanctions, Iraq had the highest standard of living in the arab world. They are a very well educated people. Bremer is compounding the quagmire daily, with Wolfowitz lending a hand in making things worse for our troops.

Max Cleland just said on PBS, the US cant win here, its a quagmire, its just like Vietnam and we need help from the UN badly. I guess he just isnt an "expert", only chicken hawks like Wolfowitz and Feith, who know no more about combat than Martha Stewart- know how to lead our troops :puke:

18. They cannot possibly believe what they are saying.
That once Saddam and his sons are gone, the Iraqi people will all fall in line and cooperate. They cannot possibly be that naive as they remind me of the 12 year old boys I teach. They see something one time and they know how to do it; charging through math problems with total confidence only to wind up with the wrong answer.

Which is it? False confidence or do they actually know that what they are saying makes no sense.

This is probably 105 dead since "Mission Accomplished" and quickly approaching a greater number dead after May 1 than prior to it. I pray for them all and their families.

21. Bring 'em On Bush gets his wish. Again.
Replace our troops with UN troops. I would like to hear Bush try to explain why this is not a good idea. He probably would hurt himself, both politically and physically, maybe even mentally. Democrats need to make this a bigger issue.

22. Immediate, unilateral, and unconditional withdrawal from Iraq
What we need is to get the Security Council to vote on a resolution putting Iraq under a UN Mandate, as it was done when the UN Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina was established in 1995. The UN Mandate will put Iraq under UN governance and security, until such time as Iraq is ready to elect a government.

The US would withdraw its troops immediately upon the UN administration being installed in Baghdad, and international peacekeepers from neutral countries assume security duties.

End of the war. No more casualties!

Troops will be home NLT Thanksgiving!

UN Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina

On December 21, 1995, the United Nations Security Council passed Resolution 1035, setting up the UN International Police Task Force and a UN Civil Affairs Office. These were brought together as the UN Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The UN Mission (UNMIBH) was created to help implement the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina (also referred to as the as the Dayton-Paris Agreement). It was "under the authority of the Secretary-General and subject to coordination and guidance as appropriate" of the High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina appointed to oversee the Agreement’s implementation.

On December 31, 2002, the UN Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina completed its mandate. The European Union Police Mission (EUPM) assumed international police monitoring duties in Bosnia and Herzegovina on January 1, 2003.

The International Police Task Force has reformed and restructured local police personnel and organizations in Bosnia and Herzegovina, reducing the bloated local police forces from over 40,000 personnel in 1996 to approximately 20,000 today. Through this process, the UN has also de-certified officers who were without proper training or education and those who participated in war crimes or other violations of the law. In addition, the UN worked to improve recruitment of officers from minority groups within the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republika Srpska and mentored local police in leadership positions.

26. When did "islamic" become a noun?
What neo-conservative think-tank coined that usage? Moslem or Muslim is the preferred term for a follower of Islam. "Islamic" is an adjective to be found in such phrases as Islamic art, Islamic poetry, Islamic science & Islamic architecture. There's quite a bit of history & culture worth studying.

This thread is not about any of that. It's about Americans continuing to be killed for a neo-colonial land-grab. Remember "Weapons of Mass Destruction"? It was all a lie. Most of the world knew it & the rest are finding out now.

Oh, & if you're interested in "a collection of losely (sic) related and mistranslated documents from way earlier" I suggest you read the Bible.
