Garikoitz Asiazu Rubina, known as ``Txeroki'' and suspected of killing two Spanish policemen in France in 2007, was arrested last night in southwest France, the French president's office said in a statement today.
ETA, which has killed more than 800 people since the start of its violent campaign for an independent Basque country in 1968, called an end to a cease-fire last year after peace talks with the Spanish government failed. Violence has since escalated and on Nov. 5 the group said it was responsible for 10 recent attacks, including a car bombing at a university.
The group, whose initials stand for Euskadi ta Askatasuna, or Basque Homeland and Freedom in the Basque language, wants an independent nation spanning the seven Basque-speaking provinces of Spain and southwestern France ...
