Victoria's Secret: Formaldehyde in Bras?
Source: ABC News

The secret is out for one of the world's most recognizable lingerie brands, according to a potential class action lawsuit in which consumers claim they've experienced very uncomfortable symptoms, like rashes, hives and permanent scarring from Victoria's Secret bras.

"I had the welts ... very red, hot to the touch, extremely inflamed, blistery. It itched profusely," said Roberta Ritter, who describes herself as a longtime Victoria's Secret shopper. "I couldn't sleep, waking up itching.

"I was just utterly sick," she added.

Ritter, 37, filed a lawsuit against the company May 14 in relation to the Angels Secret Embrace and Very Sexy Extreme Me Push-Up bras she said she purchased.

But the Ohio resident isn't alone in her complaint. Her lawyers said dozens of other women have contacted them with similar claims involving a number of the intimate brand's collections. Many seek to be a part of the potential class action lawsuit.

2. I JUST this moment
finished watching this report on the news.

Their bras are crappily made. I get mine from Bra Smyth. Even Eddie Bauer has better bras than Victoria Secret.

3. isn't formaldehyde or something similar common in new clothes?
I always give new clothes a wash or two before I wear them because otherwise I get a rash.

13. Yes and
sheets usually have even more formaldehyde than clothes. They want it to last through lots of washings.
Polished cotton has lots of formaldehyde and things like draperies and upholstery do too!

5. Years ago,
I used to like V.S., but over the past several years the quality has gone downhill.

6. I agree
I used to be willing to spend more on their bras because they were comfortable and correct sizes and lasted, but they've gone to cheaper materials.

15. I soured on them when...
... they started de-emphasizing their Shaping Demi line, and started focusing on their Pink stuff (which, like all teen/junior clothes, are poorer-made than grown-adult ones) and bras which seemed to get thinner and lighter... and cheaper feeling, too.

I think right about now is when they have one of their big clearances. I got a blue nightshirt 5 years ago and have worn it almost every night, and except for a few holes and missing threads it's still in good condition. Would I be able to say the same for a nightshirt I purchase today?

8. They spend their money paying their models to do fancy photo shoots
not on quality materials.

10. Heidi Klum's cleavage makes me pass out. Could it be the formaldehyde?

14. Are they paded Bra's? The formaldehyde could be in the foam.
That type of foam is usually used for insulating houses. But some people may figure foam is foam and used it to pad bra's. That the only thing I could think of without formaldehyde intentionally being put in the bra's.

16. So Victoria's Secret's bras have formaldehyde in them.
No wonder I get light-headed when I see their models parading them on TV.

17. I thought that formaldehyde was used in most clothing fabric.
Why is ABC picking on Victoria's Secret. If they want to take on the use of Formaldehyde they should take on the whole textile industry. This is not journalism. They are just trying to push-up ratings.
