Outsourcer Computer Sciences (NYSE: CSC) Corp. said it plans to open new data centers in China with an eye to increasing its footprint in Asia.
"Strengthening our global delivery framework and expanding our presence in Asia are key elements to our multi-year growth strategy," said CSC president and CEO Michael Laphen, in a statement Wednesday. One center will be located in the city of Tianjin, about 75 miles southeast of Beijing.
The data center, slated to open in spring 2009, will initially house about 200 employees. CSC said it expects that number to increase to about 500 within three years. The company plans to begin service delivery from a nearby temporary location starting in November.
CSC said it plans to offer a range of services from the center, including infrastructure and applications management and business process outsourcing.
The company is also planning a second data center in the same area, from which it will provide hosted and managed IT services. "China is an important location for us, and we're committed to expanding our capabilities here," said Laphen.
