Palin sees dip in popularity in Alaska, rest of nation
Source: Fairbanks Daily News Miner

"Palin’s popularity with Alaska voters has dropped precipitously, from a high of roughly 90 percent this spring — long before she was selected to join the McCain ticket — to an approval rating now of around 60 percent."

"Palin’s growing partisanship could make her transition back to state politics — should McCain not win the White House — a potentially rocky one."

"It’s going to be a different landscape for her completely," Moore said. "She’s going to need to tap into a bunch of political skills that she hasn’t had to use before."

"I don’t think she’s very practiced at admitting her faults and taking criticism well," he said."

The next time you hear right wing shills repeat the line, 'she's the most popular governor in the US', you can say 'not anymore'.

38. I predicted the Bush popularity swing on 9/11
His upsurge is called the "Rally 'round the flag" effect. In times of crisis, people want to believe in their leader, even if he's done nothing to deserve it. (Airliners smashing into buildings does not make your leader smarter. Really.) I did not predict he would go up to 90%. That's just crazy. But right after 9/11, America went a little crazy.

I did predict he would screw up the response to 9/11. Because that was his track record in basically everything he'd done in his life. I was disappointed it took so long for people to see the truth and turn on him. I kinda hoped it would happen before the 2004 election. I predicted Republicans would eventually be embarrassed to be associated with him. That was evident by 2006. And now, NOBODY wants Bush campaigning or endorsing them. He's a millstone around McCain's neck. Maybe if he endorsed Obama . . . nah, nobody's believe it.

has to be done by special election. They didn't take to kindly to stevens naming his daughter senator.

Maybe she can appoint herself dog catcher. Imagine her rounding up stray dogs with a helicopter.

35. But you have to look at the rate of descent
She dropped from 90-60 in six weeks -- that's a 33% drop in a very short time. Even Bush never plunged that quickly. At that rate, she'd be in Bush territory if the campaign lasted another six weeks.

She needs to stay in as governor to reap her full rewards.

But she can dress a moose so she'll find a way to get back in there.

23. Well, the petro belongs to the people, collectively so, naturally...

... the wealth derived from it should be spread equally among all the state's citizens -- redistributed, you might say -- even if they did nothing to earn it.

Oh, wait... I just wandered off from the Republican talking point about terrible, horrible socialistic librulls, didn't I? My bad. :D

21. What McCain won't tell you is...

... the polling sample was very small: Three Republican propaganda operatives, a rapture-ready End-Timer, and a guy they approached at a flea market, who only agreed with them so they would shut up and go away.

In other words, I don't think they've got anything real to support that "most popular governor" line. Seems to be something they just made up, like everything else about the McCain campaign: nonsense, distortions, outright lies -- and plenty of it.

Edited on Thu Oct-30-08 10:49 AM by riverdeep
of her as a national candidate, a savior of the conservative movement, I thought this was an interesting injection of reality. That she's going to have trouble staying in good graces locally, much less nationally in four years.

The article does say that almost all of the shift has come from Independents and Democrats, and that Republican support is still very strong, so who knows? I suspect she can fashion some sort of a career out of whipping up the base. But they will be the ONLY people who give a damn.

I mean, every night a new Republican spokesman comes on th' tee-vee and tells me how wonderfully, wildly popular and lovable and maverick-y she is.

They wouldn't say it on TV if it wasn't true, would they?

She may have a tougher time of it than she expects, when (not *if*) she returns!

25. I disagree, honestly. Palin has only herself to blame.

Even if she felt she had to accept McCain's insane offer, she could have tried to be less of a... well, less of an obnoxious asshole... in her 'conversation' with America's voters.

The thing is... she truly IS an obnoxious asshole, but is too stupid, thoughtless and self-aggrandizing to realize it. So she jumped right in, spewing her crap and lies, and now the inevitable has happened: People took a look at her and most have decided they want nothing to do with someone like that.

No pity for Palin. She's earned every bit of the contempt coming her way these days.

40. Your right
She only has herself to blame. If she would have done some 8th grade homework she could have found out what a VP does. She could have found out what the Bush Doctrine was. I mean shit even I would done that. Goes to show how much effort she put into this. Kids go to college for years to become lawyers and she couldn't even spend a few days to study.

This is my first post, so thought I would offer a little entertainment(?) to the folks at DU.

BTW, I voted for BHO yesterday in Deming, NM, and MAN, DID THAT FEEL GOOD!

Owed to Sarah (she deserves it, you betcha)

Sarah Palin, upward failin'
Shoulda studied car detailin'
'Bout 'family values' quit your wailin'
(Let's not forget young Bristol's nailin').

On Johnny Mac you've started bailin'
For Juneau you will soon be sailin'
To bask in fame like Kato Kaelin
Up next: indictment, trial and jailin'.

So bon voyage, dear Sarah Palin
Soon fresh clean air you'll be inhalin'
O'er wolves and moose once more prevailin'
And Rooskie spies get back to trailin'.
