Police: Deer Head Left In CO Obama Campaign Office
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4/AP) ―
Police in Colorado Springs are looking for the person who threw the head of a deer into the parking lot of a Barack Obama campaign office.

The head was found late Saturday night.

The Humane Society says the buck's antlers had been cut off to make the head resemble a donkey, the symbol of the Democratic Party.

Right now, police have no suspects.

"We're certainly concerned that someone would do something so ridiculous," said Lt. David Whitlock, a police spokeswoman.

1. of course, its "ridiculous" instead of "threatening".
if it were left at the RNC there'd be black helicopters and Blackwater goons waterboarding people.

18. wow the mcCain spokesman was good! -"despicable." "hate speech,"
From the story:

Colorado John McCain spokesman Tom Kise called the incident "despicable."

"Hopefully, we can continue to have a constructive dialogue and not have it digress into this hate speech," Kise said.

44. I disagree, because it's a strategy that works...
I think there are a lot of GOP tactics that we mistakenly eschew. The reason they are bad when the GOP does them is because they lie. Forcing a candidate to choose between owning (or disowning) the behavior of their constituents is (in my opinion) perfectly legitimate, and good politics. It prevents them from having it both ways -- benefiting from bad behavior, while claiming to be above it.

The GOP staked their claim on the politics of intimidation, hatred, violence, etc. But we Dems don't make them own it, and we should.

I don't know whether deer season is open there or not, but poached or legal, some folks take the antlers and throw the rest away, or just throw away the head if they keep the meat, too. I wouldn't read too much into this-- just some idiot playing his part in the village.

22. yes deer season is open here.
and the Obama office is right on the main route on the outskirts of town to the mountains where all the hunting takes place.

i think the "cutting the antlers off to resemble a donkey" is a stretch.

29. I agree on the antlers removal being to make it resemble a donkey being a stretch
I often see dead bucks hit by cars on the side of the road with their antlers cut off. I'm seriously doubt they were removed to make the dead animal resemble a donkey. Even without the antlers they don't look anything like one. However, the antlers are used in the making of knife handles and other such items, which more logically explains the removal.

16. It's entirely possible this has little to do with the campaign
Just sayin'. This is Colorado, after all, we have hunters here. Some are just after the antlers; more likely after dropping the buck off at the meat processing place, they got the head back and didn't care for it -- maybe a head shot, or something else that made it un-mountable -- took the antlers and dumped the head.

Maybe, maybe they were off to dump the head in a ditch, passed by the Obama 08 sign and pitched it in there snickering to themselves. But the "antlers cut off to look like a donkey" is a load of crapola, IMO.

25. Good to know
Around here (in NY state), even though there is some deer hunting, everyone knows the mob used to put a horse head in the bed of someone they wanted to torture emotionally before killing. So a deer head w/ the antlers off would be assumed to be a fill-in for the horse head. After the Sopranos TV show and the Godfather series of movies, we tend to believe everyone's heard of this.

After reading your reply, I can see how it could be what you said, especially if the hunter couldn't afford taxidermy on the head. That donkey thing seems out of left field to me, too.

The incident can easily be explained without nefarious political intent. There's plenty of stories out there that needn't be stretched for.
