Wal-Mart Pulls Eggs From Stores In China Over Melamine Scare
Source: CNN

SHANGHAI (AFP)--Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT) is pulling a major brand of eggs from its stores in China as a precaution after the chemical melamine was detected in eggs in Hong Kong, a spokeswoman said Tuesday.

Wal-Mart has begun removing Kekeda brand eggs, produced by Hanwei Group, from its Chinese stores, said Mu Mingming, a spokeswoman at the company's national headquarters in Shenzhen.

"Over the past few days, we pulled this brand of eggs off shelves in all our outlets in China," Mu said.

Wal-Mart, the world's largest retailer, made the decision after Hong Kong authorities announced over the weekend that melamine had been detected in Kekeda eggs.

2. Yes, the chickens are given feed with melamine.
It is now suspected that large numbers of other livestock are given melamine as well.

8. And missiles capable of hitting satellites, nuclear subs capable of competing with America's
not to mention the best opening ceremony of any Olympics ever.

Here is a question for the bashers of China and its goods:

If an American company like Wal-Mart sets up a factory in China and asks the Chinese operators to produce the cheapest product possible, and does not pay much attention to HOW the cheapness comes about, are the results Chinese or American? Did China produce tainted food, or did Wal-Mart? Both obviously, but I know who I blame more.

10. If an American food processing company
buys raw foodstuffs at the cheapest price it can get on the American market, and some farmers cheat by using illegal substances to produce the food, is it the company's fault for not sticking their noses in every farmer's barn? Or is the farmer putting the poison in the food morally culpable?

4. The filthy bastards use melamine
because it gives off a false reading of protein..and..it is CHEAP.
That's why they snuck it into dog/cat food as a fake protein ingredient.
It is poison.

They also snuck ethylene glycol (antifreeze) into toothpaste because it has a sweet taste and is cheaper than other sweeteners. This shit showed up at Dollar Stores and in Hotels.
It actually killed people, mostly little kids.
fuckers.
I check the label on EVERYTHING for country of origin.

18. There's another reason they use melamine
It's a common mouse and rat poison. Chinese factory farms like to spread it over their fields to keep rodent losses down. When the crop is harvested, some of the melamine comes with it. If that crop is fed to a chicken, it will have detectable melamine levels. So will its eggs.

12. They've been in China for several years
the problem they ran into was that instead of the reversed order of buying that they are used to (there is a term for it) they are having to completely reverse how business is done in China-basically graft and corruption are the normal operation standards in China something Walmart was said to be trying to break.

Another example not Walmart related was the NBA getting Yao Ming to get drafted and play for the Houston Rockets. Every palm up the chain had to be greased (this is not a reflection on him just the system) and sometimes greased twice. China is the mafia.

17. UPDATE 1-China vows penalties as melamine eggs scare spreads
http://www.reuters.com/article/rbssConsumerGoodsAndRetailNews/idUSPEK19302220081029

BEIJING, Oct 29 (Reuters) - Authorities in a northeastern Chinese city on Wednesday vowed severe punishment for those responsible for melamine-tainted eggs turning up in Hong Kong, as the health scare spread to another city in eastern China.

At least four children have died and tens of thousands were made ill amid the melamine scandal, the latest in a series of health scares to sully the "made in China" label.

Chinese products ranging from chocolate to milk powder have been recalled throughout the world due to contamination fears. Melamine, used in making plastic chairs among other things, is often added to cheat nutrition tests.

Chinese eggs have now come under the spotlight, after Hong Kong food safety authorities over the weekend found melamine-tainted eggs produced by Hanwei Group in the northeastern port city of Dalian on local shelves.
