Cincinnati Enquirer Endorses McCain for President ("This Is Sen. John McCain's Time")
Source: Cincinnati Enquirer

Endorsement: McCain for President
Senator brings his character, courage, experience

Many Americans consider the Nov. 4 presidential election to be by far the most important one of our lifetime, a historic turning point for our nation.

We are divided over our involvement in wars overseas, shaken by the collapse of financial institutions and the weakened economy, uncertain about our families' future well-being, and seemingly more polarized on partisan, cultural and regional lines than ever.

This is a time for a president with deep experience and proven character, a president who thrives in the great, good, honest middle ground in which most Americans live, a president forthright enough to tell us what we'd rather not hear, a president with the courage to follow his convictions and the grit to persevere.

This is Sen. John McCain's time.

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!

Good luck with that, Enquirer.

15. I guess Mark Twain was right about Cincinnati (or at least the Enquirer)
Quote attributed to Mark Twain "When the end of the World comes, I want to be in Cincinnati because it's always twenty years behind the times."

20. When I saw the words "Mark Twain " in your post I jumped to conclusions...
I thought you were going to say that McLame once met Twain when he was a kid.

(I mean when Twain was a kid).

An exhibit of photographs that ignited a ferocious debate last summer over Federal financing of sexually explicit art is headed for Cincinnati, a city that casts itself as a bulwark in the war against pornography. And the ruckus has begun.

Local law-enforcement officials and anti-pornography groups have risen up against the exhibit, a retrospective of Robert Mapplethorpe photographs, which includes sexually oriented images.

Time to retire.

He should be really popular here in Sun City. He could hang out in the clubhouse and complain about the liberals while we go about the serious work of restoring our country's reputation as a place where an average working person can have a decent lifestyle.

12. Cincinnati is HUGELY Republican
Cincinnati is home of the Tafts. It is NOT a shocker that Cincinnati endorsed McCain. It is the home of Bob Taft, previous Ohio governor, who was the first governor to be charged with a crime while in office.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Taft

This is why Ohio is such a toss-up state: Dems in NWO and Cleveland, Repubs in Cincinnati and Columbus. We do have a Democratic Governor now so I'm hopeful Ohio will come through on Nov. 4.

32. Agree about Cincy, but not Columbus.
I've lived here over 30 years and don't run into a whole lot of Repubs. In fact, in 2004, Kerry won Franklin County, 54% to 35%. The Dispatch endorsement is a joke, as is, unfortunately, the paper itself. Everyone who lives here knows the Dispatch's endorsements do not reflect the community. They only reflect the personal political leanings of the Wolfe family, owners of the paper.

DH and I play a "count the signs" game when we're driving around town. Last week, while walking the dog through the neighborhood, on four streets (about 2 miles), I counted 37 Obama signs to 6 McCain signs. A few days later, we were in what has always been a very Repub suburb, and were surprised that the sign count was pretty close to 50-50.

44. It's encouraging news about Columbus
I'm from NWO, where Toledo is definitely Democratic, but the suburbs and rural areas are definitely Repub country. I guess I've assumed that Columbus is almost as Republican as Cincinnati. Thanks for the correction. That's encouraging.

13. No surprise there.
I lived in this miserable part of Cincinnati (suburbs) for 18 mos, the only time Mason, Warren Co. -- those last 21%ers -- EVER looked good was in my rear view mirror on May 25th, 2006 as I sped towards SE Penna, for good!! I cried when I crossed the Ohio-PA border. Seriously.

17. I like the part about McCain's "sticking to his convictions"!
LAST PARAGRAPH:

America needs an experienced, skilled hand in the White House, someone who can exercise a moderating influence, someone who can summon the courage to change and the consistency to stick with his convictions. That someone, we believe, is John McCain.

Hmmm....

nasty temper; '...consistency to stick with his convictions...' no, thank you, we have one of those now, we can't afford 4 more years of stubborn arrogance (which is what I call sticking to convictions).

No "we" are NOT. Some 80% of the public are AGAINST the war(s) and are against all the crap that Shrub and the repukes have drowned this nation in, and what is left are the RW lunatic fringe kooks at the bottom of the sewer cheering on the nonsense and helping to drag the country down.

that is stuck on such notions such as Creationism and sexual orientation being a choice. Can't talk to people like that. Thankfully, they are not representative of the vast majority of folks in the great state of Ohio.

45. Dayton Daily News did much better!
"But in a time of change, Sen. Obama is the more promising leader. With his agile mind, often pitch-perfect judgment and preternatural calm and self-confidence, he seems built for the job of sorting through this thing, if anybody can.

The nation faces a choice that looks more and more like a choice between the future and the past. It has never been one to shrink from the future."

This morning I called and cancelled my subscription.
