Rep. Mahoney admits affairs, says he broke no laws
Source: AP

by Brian Skoloff

>>>>PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla.- U.S. Rep. Tim Mahoney, embroiled in an adultery scandal and a tight race for re-election, admitted Friday to having at least two affairs but insisted he broke no laws and will not resign. The first-term Democrat conceded that one of the affairs began as he was running on a family values platform to replace Mark Foley, a Republican who resigned amid revelations that he sent lurid Internet messages to male pages who had worked on Capitol Hill as teenagers.

Mahoney, 52, apologized to his wife, his daughter, and his constituents, even as he maintained he hadn't been hypocritical.

"I can understand why people would feel that way and for those people, all I can say is, 'I'm sorry I let you down,'" Mahoney said in his first set of interviews since news broke this week that he had a sexual relationship with Patricia Allen, 50, whom he met while campaigning in 2006.>>>> snip

>>>>Mahoney also acknowledged he had an affair with a high-ranking Martin County offical in his district around the time he was lobbying the Federal Emergency Management Agency to give the county a $3.4 million hurricane clean-up reimbursement. The funds were awarded last year.>>>>

6. He's a Blue Dog Dem who ran on "moral values" for Mark Foley's seat.
It's our business. Plus, he's a bully.

3. Toast. I listened to the tape. That seat is gone, and good riddance.
He's beyond finished. Even his own advisers can't quit on him fast enough.

Nobody wants to hold all Dem seats and expand our numbers more than me, but I draw the line at this assclown.

He's . . .

5. Why do we care about his private life? Is he running on a "family values
and strict marital fidelity" platform? Does he support the oppression of people whose lifestyle is slightly different from his?

7. See post #6. Yes, he did run on a "family values" platform.
You do remember Foley, don't you?

10. Well, then, he's an IDIOT. I'd still vote for him if he were my local candidate, though.
ANY Dem is better than ANY Repuke as far as I'm concerned.

9. Has anybody seen any polling on this seat?
I usually go to electoral-vote.com to see House district polling, but none are listed for this race, which kind of surprised me. The seat had a slight Repug lean to begin with, so I was curious if Mahoney is basically already seen as likely to be defeated due to his affairs.

14. Yep. Mahoney is finished; in the 20s and falling this afternoon.
Can't remember where I saw it, but he had plunged into the 20s and more crap is coming out.

11. The FBI/DOJ should not leak info 2 weeks before an election. This is election fraud by the GOP
and the Bush administration, worse even than indicting someone 2 weeks before an election which they are no longer allowed to do.

12. This is bullshit! All real Dems should support him. Sort it out later.
Anything that the DOJ leaks to the press 2 weeks before an election about a Dem is a lie until proven otherwise--and anyone posting on DU should understand this if they are really a Democrat.

15. Update this p.m.: Mahoney now admits to "multiple affairs"
I really wouldn't waste time supporting this guy when there are so many Dems we truly need to fight for.

He's gone. Forget it. We have plenty of seats we can pick up.

Late today: http://www.palmbeachpost.com/localnews/content/local_news/epaper/2008/10/17/1017mahoney.html

Also, you wouldn't believe what a bully this guy is. Listen to the tape floating around the Internet.

Believe me, this guy isn't the ditch we want to die in.

17. This is the piece of shit the Blue Dogs forced on Florida
in place pf that other piece of shit Foley. He is indistinguishable from a Republican; he even has their moral values.

We need to repudiate anyone endorsed by Blue Dogs/DLC types. They are skunks in the woodpile.

21. he became a Democrat in 2004, but he was having affairs before that
while he was still a Republican and preaching Family Values.

none of this would matter if they didn't preach morals and family values and other shit.
