Pa. GOP sues ACORN, state, alleging voter fraud
Source: AP

Friday, October 17, 2008

HARRISBURG, Pa. ...

The lawsuit filed Friday asks the state Commonwealth Court to order ACORN and its affiliates to provide lists identifying all the voters it registered and to finance public-service announcements to remind first-time voters that they must present identification at the polls ...

The GOP lawsuit also asks the court to order Secretary of State Pedro Cortes to ensure that local polling places have extra provisional ballots for prospective voters whose registrations are not processed by the Nov. 4 election. And it suggests — but does not ask the court to order — that Cortes halt processing of registration applications collected by ACORN and require those people to cast provisional ballots ...

GOP officials handed out copies of the lawsuit at a Harrisburg news conference, but it was not filed in state Commonwealth Court until more than three hours later — a fact that a spokesman for Democratic Gov. Ed Rendell said showed that it is politically motivated ...

ACORN is required by law to turn in any voter registration application that it receives, but the group screens the forms and is careful to flag questionable ones so that county election officials can scrutinize them, Pennsylvania ACORN leader Ali Kronley told a Capitol news conference ...

3. Any connection to a fired-for-political-reasons Judge in this area
where the case was filed?
Everytime they file a case like this, we need to look at the correlation to the firing of judges.

8. Not true. A SCOTUS ruling applies everywhere.
They ruled that a political party does not have standing to object to state regulations. Any judge who does not consider that Supreme Court ruling would be skating on very thin ice.

District and Appellate Court rulings only affect those states within their jurisdiction. But Supreme Court rulings are the ultimate law of the land.

9. The wording of the Ohio decision...
... would suggest that this suit would not be upheld. In particular, the Court's ruling was based on the notion that "private entities" (such as the Ohio GOP) could not file suit with regard to HAVA compliance (if I'm reading it correctly).

7. Why should ACORN have to finance any public announcements?
That should be a responsibility of the state and not ACORN. ACORN apparently has been doing everything the Law required..Republicans are very Desperate it would seem.

12. One thing
The one thing I would like the MSM media to emphasize is that what the Republicans are yelling about doesn't make any difference anyway. ACORN gets people to, and helps them if necessary, fill out the voter registration forms. It is actually not their job to decide which are valid and which aren't but apparently they do a preliminary job of separating the questionable forms out of those collected. It is up to the local registrar of voters office to determine if any of the forms submitted are invalid. What the Republicans are claiming is that not only did ACORN turn in invalid forms but that the registrar's office will go ahead and process them and then somehow ACORN is going to come up with all the necessary people to vote with the necessary IDs or whatever to make the whole thing work. If a group like ACORN could pull that off I wouldn't like it but I would be pretty impressed with their organizing skills.

Dems will do anything to win! It's a disgrace! Where are the morals? Remember, Liberalism is a Mental Disorder!

Can you imagine the how much the Democrats would freak if white republicans did this? It is ironic that these are the same people who whine about disfranchisement and "all votes must count" but they are the ones involved in voter fraud. Democrats will absolutely do whatever it necessary to win and it is a FACT that their party is involved in most voter fraud charges. But again Democrats could care less they only care about potential Republican corruption. Democrats have this Nazi-like allegiance to their party regardless of corruption or party platform; they truly are ignorant blind sheep. I am an independent but must admit Democrats vote based on race and party alone, it is sad. Wake up Democrats vote on ideas for once in your life. No wacky Democrats “Change” is not an idea.

God save Philadelphia. Well. Smerconish endorsed O'Bama yesterday, perhaps there is a god.
