Voters Slam McCain Mailer, Robocalls Linking Obama to Terrorists
Source: Fox

Automated phone calls and mailers linking Barack Obama to terrorists are a despicable ploy, say "outraged citizens" in e-mail campaign to reporters.

Numerous "outraged citizens" have peppered the e-mail boxes of reporters with complaints about a mailer and robocalls sponsored by John McCain's campaign and the Republican National Committee, denouncing them as a new low in politics and an ugly, possibly racist attempt to frighten voters about Barack Obama in the closing days of the campaign.

The automated phone calls in Virginia, Nevada and possibly elsewhere and a separate direct-mail piece imply Obama will be soft on terrorists abroad and play up his links to 1960s radical William Ayers.

The mailer shows pictures of North Korean President Kim Jong Il, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and carries the headline "America must face the threat of terror head on."

The mailer calls on Republicans to vote early by absentee ballot and says that, ""Democrats who want to control Washington have pledged to meet, without preconditions, with the leaders of Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba and North Korea ... Our foreign policy must not be appeasement."

From TPM: Virginia GOP Mailer Depicts Dems -- And Obama? -- As Appeasers Of Terrorists
By Greg Sargent - October 16, 2008, 10:07AM
In the race's final stretch, much of the real sludge and slime that floats to the surface will be the work not of the campaigns but of under-the-radar operations run by state parties and the like.

Here, for instance, is a new mailer from the Republican Party of Virginia that has to be seen to be believed. It hits Dems -- and by extension, Obama -- for wanting to appease terrorists and rogue leaders.

But the key is the last page, which displays a man who looks like Obama but with the same dark and sinister aspect as the bad actors depicted elsewhere in the mailing. Note the words superimposed over his face (click on the images to enlarge)...

12. Yes, but cropped and darkened to look more like Obama
This is not an accident. They want people to look at that image with that slogan and think they're seeing Barack Obama.

2. This is beyond disgusting. I hope more andmore that this election ends in an
overwhelming landslide for Obama...just to teach these repukes a lesson.

I would like to think that the public is finally waking up to the filth the repukes have used all along...

10. Just because his campaign paid for this
Surely you can't hold Straight-Talkin' Johnny Maverick responsible for what his campaign does! Why do you hate the troops? STJM was a POW, you know. Besides, these calls are all in the past. Now is not the time for assigning blame or pointing fingers. That time was seven seconds ago, and you missed your window of opportunity for that. So let's look to the future. Or do you hate the future, too?

5. So, Greg Sargent is kind of a bonehead, eh?
"We asked Virginia spokesperson Gerry Scimeca whether the likeness to Obama was in fact the Illinois Senator, and he said he couldn't immediately say."

It's obviously bin Laden. Way to go, Greg.

6. Those robocalls are playing in WI, too
92.1 The Mic (Madison) morning host Lee Rayburn played the robocalls on his program this morning. They usually podcast his show at http://www.themic921.com/pages/leeRayburn.html

We're lucky in Madison to have Rayburn on the air...he's never afraid of any topic.

It's fully recorded on my answering machine. I'm trying to figure out how to copy it (digital answering machine) so others can hear just how despicable this message really is.

14. Call John McCain at 703-418-2008 to express your outrage
Call the RNC at 202-863-8500.

If you get a human, engage them for as long as you can. Waste their time.

If you get a voicemail, leave as long a message as you can.

Call them early and call them often. It doesn't cost that much.

20. I'm having a recurring nightmare
that these negative attack tactics will work. After all I live in Georgia, where an honorable Senator who lost his legs in service to his country was replaced by a draft dodging, lying, dispicable SOB. I know Obama's ahead in the polls and electoral votes, but I won't sleep well until I hear McCain's speach congratuling Obama for winning.
