McCain To Letterman: 'I Screwed Up'
Source: CBS

Host Grills Senator On Palin Decision, Ayers References

NEW YORK (CBS) ― An extremely apologetic and grateful Sen. John McCain finally arrived at the Ed Sullivan Theater in Manhattan Thursday to appear on The Late Show with David Letterman, and he wasted no time in explaining what caused the gaffe that led to him canceling his last scheduled interview.

"I screwed up," McCain admitted. "I screwed up. What can I say? It's been reviewed pretty well what happened."

~snip~

"Absolutely, she has inspired Americans. That's the thing we need. We need inspiration, we need courage," McCain said. " need someone to say, 'This is a person who is an inspiration to us, this is a person who has done so many things that are very unusual.' I think America is crying out for change and she represents the kind of change we need."

~snip~

McCain appeared a bit uncomfortable with the repeated questioning though he held his composure and sense of humor throughout the interview. Things didn't get easier for the presidential nominee when Letterman asked him about the significance of bringing up Barack Obama's relationship with William Ayers. Letterman compared it to McCain's relationship with Gordon Liddy, who served time in prison for his role in the 1972 Watergate scandal.

"I know Gordon Liddy, he went to prison, he paid his debt as people do. I'm not in any way embarrassed to know Gordon Liddy," McCain said.

9. Yes, he did. They showed a clip on CBS news.
McCain joked that he will raise taxes on one person...Letterman. Then McCain laughed a phony laugh for about 5 seconds while Letterman just looked at him.

2. "I screwed up" said Pres. McCain after pushing the nuclear button

"I got pissed off at Cindy and damn it somebody had to pay."
McCain added that he will send Ambassador at large Joe Lieberman to apologize to whoever is left in China.
Edit to add - give me someone who does some thinking ahead of time.

19. Yes, which one has been truly reformed?
Liddy would seem to still be extreme in his views, just as McCain never learned from the Keating 5 scandal.

5. Was Sarah Failin' with him?
Last night Dave made a pitch to McCain to bring her on with him. Just curious if he did, he could have used her skirt to hid behind.

6. Why didn't he give that excuse several weeks ago?
He's lying again.

He didn't "screw up", he just didn't want to appear on the show because Dave had been making jokes about him and Palin.

7. "It's been reviewed pretty well what happened?"
What?

He left Letterman hanging at the last moment for NO GOOD REASON (other than to appear with katie couric - which is NOT a 'good' reason).

mcSame's a little groveling *sshole!

18. Sounds like some good video clips to merge with some of Liddy's more reprehensible statements ...
... like how to best take-out federal agents with headshots.

first he doesn't go on letterman's show, then he realizes he needs the publicity so he goes back with his tail between his legs.
